Can I swap the car I want at a ford dealership?

If I have put a deposit down on a brand new car to be delivered to a dealership. However I have changed my mind on what car I want. The car needed to be sent to the dealership however it may not have been yet as i'm due to pick it up in roughly 2 weeks. I would still spend money on a different car however this one is second hand and a little bit less. The first car was on a finance plan. This car I'm willing to pay outright as i could get a loan for it.

I know i have signed a contract for that car. How likely is a dealership to re negotiate. They probably havnt spent any money on the first car yet so hopefully they will let me put the deposit towards the new one.

They might agree to it but if you have a contract to buy a specific car, then they are bound to deliver it and you are bound to pay for it unless you both agree to modify the contract. How likely are they to agree? Too many variables.

You will need to go to the Ford dealership tomorrow and talk to them about it. They may allow the trade, it may not even cost you anything but the difference between the two vehicles. All of the paperwork will have to be redone and a lot of the decision to allow the change or not will be made based on whether the dealership thinks it can sell the car you ordered which will come regardless of whether you do the trade or not.

Changing anything costs them time & effort but its possible if you are willing to pay extra for it. Probably hidden in the price of the other car.

Lets say they were going to make $2000 on the first car, if the 2nd car enables them to make $2500-3000, they will do it. If not, they won't.

And NOT financing via the dealer costs them money. They get finance kickbacks.

You can't change your mind, you signed a contact which is binding.

It's completely up to the dealer. If the new car you ordered is somehow special and the dealer will have a hard time selling it to anyone else, you may expect a hard time getting out of the deal. And don't expect any nice price discounts on anything you do from this point. You have now annoyed the dealer and he's not going to be in a mood to give you anything. It's possible you won't get your deposit back, depending on what you signed.

Every dealership is different. But it doesn't hurt to ask.
