460 ford starting issues?

This truck sat for some time. The pistons stuck, but they freed up without any trouble. I go to turn the key and I hear a click. When I let off, I hear a clunk. What could this be? The solenoid? I'm using a battery from a 300 ford. This should at least be enough to turn it a little I think.

The battery wires are new and the terminals are clean, I think the solenoid is too, but maybe from sitting it went bad? I had the ground cable of the battery bolted to the head with the valve cover off, and to the radiator support. No luck with either. I have not tried to directly jump the starter yet.

The lights do work, I know this probably doesn't mean a thing.

This is an old carbed 460 in a 1978 bronco. I've been told it's not the factory engine.

Get a test light and see where the power drop is. That will lead you to the trouble!

If it has sat long enough for the pistons to be stuck you can expect that the starter motor is also stuck and the gas in the carb has turned to shellac by now. So you are just starting out on your list of problems. Don't forget about the rusted brake lines.

  • Issues with wiring to Car starting? MY car will randomly not start, i pop the hood and jiggle the negative wire and it will start to work. I was wondering if anyone could help me with identify the problem. My car is a 1998 Ford ranger xlt
  • Issues with 1998 ford ranger starting? MY car will randomly not start, i pop the hood and jiggle the negative wire and it will start to work. The cable is attaced tightly to the terminal, it's the wiring leading away from the terminal I have to jiggle. I was wondering if anyone could help me with identify the problem. • Car cuts out whilst starting a couple times and also because if being revved fully after starting? So yeah, it does that from starting cold i think. It has been suggested that its my Idle air control valve but i've cleaned that out and it still does it. Also replaced spark plugs. Its a Ford Fiesta 1998. However, it idles fine as soon as I've moved the car. So even when stopped it is fine as long as i have driven it since start up. The issues only happen on start up. Any ideas?
  • External condenser ford 460? My 460 seems to have an external condenser on the passenger fender with a but connector. Does this make sense first off, and what would it be called? Every one I find seems to have a blade connector.
