Air bag message flashing on and off repeatedly?

Our '96 Ford E150 van has 100K miles, and it's still in tip-top condition. But the air bag notification flashes on and off when driving and it has never been in an accident.

Why is this happening all of a sudden? Any way to stop it?

Fix whatever is causing the fault

It's failing a built-in self test for some reason.

You could try removing and re-seating the correct fuse; maybe the contact has become intermittent. Anything else, let your mechanic figure it out. Messing with air bags can be dangerous.

Take it to autozone and see if they can erase the error code. I had this issue my air bag light was on 24/7 for years took it to the dealer for a code issue with the accelerator and they just erased the air bag code for free on top of my $600 bill for the accelerator. Mine turns on if somebody in the passenger seat doesn't have a seat belt or any weight on it never tested it with the driver seat

POST (Power On Self Test) failed, which means your airbag may not deploy when needed. Take it to a qualified mechanic, read the error codes, and get it fixed.

  • What would cause an ignition coil to fail repeatedly on a 1997 Ford Thunderbird? The car has 65,000 miles on it and has received regular tune ups and oil changes but over the past year or so it leaves me stranded every 3 months or so leaving me to have it towed to the nearest mechanic--including the Ford Dealer once. Every time I'm told it was the ignition coil and it is replaced and the car runs fine for several weeks until the next incident.
  • Do I need sleeping bag in yellowstone? I'm going to yellowstone on 1st August and I wonder if I need sleeping bag. We drive Ford mustang and as you may be aware the boot is really small therefore I try to spare some space. I don't want to take sleeping bags but Mrs keeps telling me it's going to be cold over there even in august. What do you people think?
  • 2003 Ford Explorer O/D off Light flashing? I know that the O/D means over drive and since it's flashing, it's because there's something actually wrong with it. I'm a broke college student and this vehicle is all I have. I can't really afford a new vehicle. I have an appointment on Wednesday. I was just wondering what could the problem be? How much will it cost me? And could it be something as simple as transmission fluid being low?
  • Ford Escape 2007 O/D light flashing and won't accelerate? Today I picked my car up from the shop and it was driving fine. A few hours later I went to the store and on the way home my OD light started flashing and the car wouldn t accelerate past 40 mph. When I parked the car I tried to reverse and it only rolled forward. What the hell happened from the time it was parked to going to the store?
