302 ford 4160 600 holly carb runs at high rpm when started and won't idle down?
Rebuilt 1984 ford 302 cam lift 471, rebuilt holly 600 hei distributor, starts in 2-3 cranks but runs at high rpm and won't idle down even when idle screws are closed
Check for a vacuum leak.
Check the fast idle cam and choke.
Did you adjust the throttle properly? The only way it will idle that high is because the plate is open a bit, creating the venturi effect to draw gas into the cylinders.
I assume the timing is spot on. An incorrect intial timing can cause high idle. Every once in a while, four barrels "secondary throttle plates" will refuse to close, thereby giving a fast idle. This will drive the owner crazy trying to figure out why it won't idle down. Sometimes the secondaries are stuck from gunk, sometimes there's an adjustment screw, sometimes the linkage is binding. The only true way to find out is to remove the carb, drain it, flip it up-side-down, work the throttle and see if the plates are closing… FULLY.
Power valve is broken! Rebuild the carb! Check the timing of the engine!
- When i go to start my boat it shoots gas back up carb, it is 2300 holly? Just finished valve job, carb overhaul and gas still shoots out the carb.1996 302 ford motor, withholly 2 barrel carb. Keeps fouling the spark plugs from all the gas. What might cause that are where else should I be looking.
- What would cause my 2004 Ford E350 5.4L 8cyl to have 2,000 rpm at idle and in neutral? The van has 113,000 miles. Plugs changed at 100,000 miles. When started the rpms are at 2,000. Occasionally they will drop 100-200 rpm for 1-2 seconds then right back to 2,000 rpm. While driving there's no problem as long as the van is in drive. Once in a great while after driving around for a while it will be normal rpm when I put it in park. But usually works its way back to 2,000 rpm. Should I try to clean the throttle body or change the tps sensor? Any help will be much appreciated.
- What RPM should my car idle while driving and what RPM should I shift? I have a 2003 Ford Mustang V6. 5 speed manual transmission. This is not the first manual car I've owned, but I'm curious. I never really look but I've read in some places that in order to save gas you should shift at 2 RPM before I used to shift at around 3-3.5 RPM. Also what's a good RPM my car should idle at while I'm in gear? Let's say I'm driving in 3rd gear. What's the ideal RPM to stay at before needing to shift.
- What Ford vehicles with a 302 motor comes with a 4 barrel carb (and only comes 302 with a 4bc)? I have a 1989 mustang gt motor and I'm making it carbureted and I'm looking for any vehicle with a 302 that carries a 4b. I'm going to a junkyard where they don't help with finding vehicles, so it would be helpful to know what vehicles only have a 302 with a 4bc, that way I can look it up on the website and know exactly where its at.
