What is the better first car?
I'm getting my license this fall and have boiled my list of potential first cars down to two models. The first is a (used) Ford Crown Victoria Police interceptor, and the other being a 1998 Subaru Impreza RS (Outback sport is fine too). I have done the research on both models regarding insurance, reliability, and whatnot, but am really torn on what the wiser investment would be regarding the two. (Please no alternative answers like "just get a Honda Civic", I just want to know which one of these is a better choice).

Please add more info. Like the miles on it. Anything around or over 100k will have problem after problem. Those are both very old cars. And the police car will have a lot of problems since they work the hell out of those things.
Any car that old can have serious expensive problems. So, pick the one you like best and have it inspected by a professional mechanic BEFORE you buy. It doesn't matter what your research tells you. What matters most is the actual condition of the specific car RIGHT NOW. If don't get the inspection, and you find problems after the purchase, it's too bad, because used cars are sold "as-is" and there's nothing you'll be able to do.
I have several year experience with Panthers and I'll let you in on a little secret, the PI Crown Vic is nothing special. Furthermore, former Police cruisers are beat to hell. Ask a cop, they won't recommend you buy one. Now the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis are wonderfully reliable cars. And they can be had cheap. Furthermore, you can buy some Grandpa's Grand Marquis in a cop color, like white or silver, and buy the grille and other goodies to make it look just like a PI.
Your looking at a 17 year old Subaru in a model that is regularly driven roughly. All you are going to do is buy a pile of problems that quickly becomes a money pit. Avoid both cars and start looking again.
- What car should I get for my first car? I'm 16 and about to buy my first car. I'm thinking about getting a 94 Ford Ranger (120k miles) with lifted suspension, off road tires, and a prerunner bumper. Would this be a reliable car throughout my high school years? Should I get that or should I just get a 2 door coupe?
- Am looking to buy my first pickup what's better Ford Ranger or F150? I'm looking to buy my first pickup and i'm choosing between a 2000 Ranger or a 2000 F150 both with less then 130,000 miles. So i have test drove the F150 and i really like the truck but i haven't test drove a Ranger just yet so i just want to know which is a better truck. (Which would you choose) I want a single Cab for both I will try to test drive a Ranger soon before i make my choice thank you all
- Which car is the better car all around? Ok, i'm looking to get a new car but after all, this is the hardest decision to make… Between the 2015 Ford Mustang. 2015 Camaro and 2015 Dodge Challenger… All v6 base models, i'm not trying to spend too much… I'm leaning towards the Mustang because our family gets a 2,500 discount on Fords and they have a rebate going on right now… If i wanted the Mustang now, I would only have to pay around 19,800 for a 26,000 car… Suggestions please
- Which is a better first car? I'm a 16 year old guy and I currently have my permit. I have been looking at cars for a long time. Right now, everything is within walking distance from my house. So I don't really need a car. However I plan on buying a car right before I go to college. I was thinking either a 2012 Ford Fusion SEL or a 2012 Ford Taurus Limited. Which one should I buy?
