What car model has better build quality Ford or Volkswagon? - 1
Back when it was Bugs vs. Model-T's the VW's lasted longer and required less maintenance than the Fords. I still have my 1971 VW Super and a 1985 VW Golf diesel with about 500,000 miles on it.
But today with all the technology put into cars it's hard to tell which will be better. 40 years from now we'll all be able to look back and say which was better. Sadly, cars now days are more disposable than ever. I'd be willing to bet that the cars built nowadays won't last more than 20 years or 200,000 miles. The older cars don't last longer than that either but when they wear out you just rebuild the engine for a few hundred dollars and then it's like new again.
However, if you take care of it, follow the guidelines in the owner's manual and don't drive it around like a bank robber you should be able to get a long life out of any new car. It depends when and what vehicles you are talking about. Are we comparing a 71 Pinto and a new Passat? If we're, I think the Passat might be slightly better. As far as I know Ford has better reliability and quality ratings. Newly redesigned models tend to have a little bit more quality problems than the previous generations. However, the overall quality is still at a high level. Hi without any doubt the Volkswagen. Some of my past fords here in the united kingdom where not even welded together in places these where new cars with some awful faults paint with runs in it an all sorts. The Volkswagen by comparison is a much better built car. Mine where all new when i first sat in the drivers seat. All intended for disabled drivers as well. Not a good advert. Back when it was Bugs vs Fords of the 60's up, V.W. Was a better built car every time. That is the European models, not the Mexican models. I still see the odd 60's bug drive around, looking like new. When was the last time you saw a 60's domestic vehicle? In a museum? Or auto salvage yard. Not a daily driver. You got to give the V.W. Car its due. It hangs together, through 4 feet of snow or 100F temperature. On the road or on the mountain, or at a fishing lake. They keep on running with minimal maintenance. Every car requires "some maintenance". Accept that as a fact. There's very little that goes wrong because the car is so basic.
/ When V.W. Changed to front engine F.W.D., they had issues which could be fixed easily enough.
. Do not forget the days of FORD PINTO, FORD MAVERICK. They were Lemons of cars comparable to FORD EDSEL.
Todays cars, they throw in cheap electronic gizmos which do not really do more than cause additional problems.
I still choose V.W.(European) as being a better built car. Note how the domestics have European styling… And handling.

- Why can't Ford have the same quality as Toyota does? What are they doing wrong? I have to drive and maintain a Ford for work. Constant wiring, fuel pump relay, gaskets, water pump, and other issues. Many Toyotas are problem free other than maintenance. How does this happen?
- If you have enough money, can you have a new classic car built? Like can I pay to have ford build me a 1970 Mustang? Lets say I don't want to buy an old car and restore it, I want a 1970 but straight off the factory line. Can you have a car built with the old style frame, engine, trans, etc?
- Which car is the best quality wise, and which has cheaper parts? Okay, I'm buying a car soon and I have my eyes on 5 cars that I'm interested in. 1. Ford Focus 2. Kia Forte 3. Nissan Sentra 4. Kia Rio 5. Chevrolet Cruze I'm just debating which car is a reliable car and if something does happen which has the cheapest repair cost. Either car I pick will be an 10 or higher.
