Would driving at 90 mph harm a 4.0 v6 rangers engine?

Its a 2007 ford ranger 4.0 v6 with a 5 speed manual and is in great condition.

No. Its over revving that hurts engines as we get excess vibration and wear etc. As long as we not exceeding its max rev and speed design point then it ought to do fine. Do bear in mind. When we use anything at top end of its ability range it will give rise to potential early failures.
compare for example same 2 cars.one driver fast.braked hard and yet covering same mileage as another but that one is driven carefully with no heavy acceleration or braking. What car do you think will last longer?
so while it technically won't hurt it as such. Its not good idea to do so often or for long periods of time. Plus isn't it hard to find places to run at those speeds?

Yes. Just like starting the car up in the morning puts wear on the engine, so will everything else.

Maybe if you try to do it in 3rd gear, but driving properly in top gear, no worries

  • What causes problems starting a car and the engine to misfire going over 60 mph? This problem started about two months ago. I have a 2006 Ford Taurus. So far no mechanic can figure out the problem. They have replaced all of the spark plugs (numerous times because they keep going bad), an engine coil, the crankshaft position sensor, the battery, did a tune-up, ran a $100 diagnostic test and still the problem occurs. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I forgot that they also did a coolant flush.
  • What common problems do Ford Rangers have? I'm looking into buying a used Ford Ranger (2000 or newer) but I've heard that certain years have head gasket, clutch and transmission problems. I've read 2002 Rangers are known for warped head gaskets. Any other years I should avoid?
  • My 1999 ford rangers won't crank? Battery with full charge 12volt. I turn the ignition switch to start and it won't. Radio turns on, power Windows works. Engine won't crank
  • Did ford ever put a V8 in any of the Rangers? I'm wondering if Ford ever made a Ford Ranger with a V8 engine. I know for a fact that they put a 4 cylinder and V6's in them and I know they put V8's in Ford Explorer's but I have no idea if they put them in the Ranger
