What Are Your Opinions On Buying A Car With A Lot Of Miles?

I've never used this fourum, so please be patient with me.

I'm looking at a 2009, Ford Focus, 1.6, TDCi, DPF, Zetec, 5dr, Estate in grey with black back window privacy glass, diesel, manual, at 95,000 miles and would like your opinions on what you think about mileage above 90,000 at £4,500

I currently drive a 2012 Ford Fiesta 1.2, 3dr, in red with 33,000 miles and thinking of trading it in for a bigger car and want to stick with Ford also what do you think I could get off the price with an exchange?

I went to look at the Focus and it's in very good condition, clean engine, good tires, immaculate interior, very happy with the car and the dealership was good to. Very friendly helpful staff, who don't mind customers popping in to have a look. And probably should mention I want a bigger car for family, dogs and work.

I have no problem with buying a high mileage car provided that it is a good model and model year and that the car comes with full maintenance records. 90,000 miles isn't that much. I'm not sure about the European market ones, but the 05-10 North American market Focus models have had an excellent track record. I personally would not buy any used car with more than 50,000 miles on it. 90k miles is NOT a huge number IF the vehicle has been properly maintained. Have your independent mechanic (NOT the dealership's) go through the records and inspect the car to be certain that it IS in good condition. A diesel engine Focus SHOULD be good for at least 300k miles If it has a full service history it is not that high a mileage for a 2009 car.
Diesel engines last a long time.
Get a good warranty on it. Too many miles, too tired The actual condition of a car, as determined by a mechanic, is much more important than the number of miles.

  • How do you determine if your car is under California or Federal emissions if your emissions sticker is gone? I have a 1993 ford taurus 3.8L V6 GL 4dr. Sedan. I need to know if my car is under California or federal emissions. I know you are suppose to have a sticker on your car that tells you but mine was destroyed over time so I really don't know. Is their another way to get this information? How would I find out?
  • What did you name your mustang or what is your mustangs name? I just bought a 2006!dark blue Ford Mustang and I named it Sally. She's named after the first bar I ever went to which is called Mustang Sally's, and it happen to be my favorite bar. What did you name yours or what is yours named?
  • Is getting a lot of miles on a car actually bad for the car if the car is well taken care of? Back story: I have been using my car to visit a guy who lives about an hour away from me, and my mother has said that I "don't need to be putting all those miles" on my car. It is a well-taken care of Ford mustang with about 125,000 miles on it, and I have not noticed any issues at all. Cars are meant to be driven, in my mind. Is putting mileage on a care actually a bad thing, or is mother probably pulling an overprotective mother of an adult child?
  • I need some opinions on my car? I drive a 2002 Ford Mustang, and it's dark blue with white pin stripes, white lettering on the back, and white stripes below the doors (not in the picture because the picture is old). My question is, should I buy a white hood scoop or a blue hood scoop? Pictures here:
