My '92 ford F-150 will rarely start?
It's an old truck and still needs work. My dad said that it is cold- natured. To start it you need to gas it. It will start 50 percent of the time but recently it's like 10 percent of the time. When you first try to start it you need to get it right because if you don't it won't start no matter how much you try so you have to wait a while before your next try. What needs to be done so that when you start it, it will start right away without gassing it.
Also when it does start. I have to wait for it to wind down, my dad said for the governor to kick in. Will it always be like that or can something be done so when I start it I can go immediatly.
Added (1). The battery and spark plugs are both new, spark plugs were just put in there as it came in the box, not adjusted because we didn't have the tool for it at the time, we do now tho but haven't yet. When it first idles it sounds like it sputters a little until it idles down. What do you mean by misfire?

Its EFI because it's a 1992. So, I'd say a replacement of the spark plugs would go a long way. If the problem persist, a new rotor cap/button, ignotion coil, new battery, fuel filter, are all things that would help the truck. And these parts aren't overly expensive either.
Does it idle okay? No misfires? I had a 1993 at one point, it sat for months on end and was difficult to start because of that.
After starting it and it's idling high, after 10 seconds, just tap the gas once and it should idle down to 1000 or so. That's how my '93 was. Sounds like you may have a vacuum leak somewhere. Usually there's a vacuum hose routing diagram on the hood or near the hood latch. Check and make sure the hoses are there and in correct order. The ends, of older rubber hoses, split sometimes, so it's not a bad idea to check the ends to make sure they are snug.
Check these before delving deeper into the engine.

- I would like to know if 04-08 Ford F-150 rear suspension parts would fit on my 1998 Ford F-150? I'm building a prerunner and have already received a long travel kit for the front of my 1998 Ford F-150, but I'm having trouble finding rear suspension parts for it. Honestly I'm perfectly fine with just a pair of Fox 2.5 Factory piggybacks, but I can only find some for the 04-08 Ford F-150 and I just wanted to know if they would bolt onto my 1998 Ford F-150.
- I use regular gasoline for my 2010 Ford F-150 would it be bad to start using a mid grade or premium? I have about 42000 miles on it I've always used regular it has never been a problem. But if I upgrade to mid grade or premium would it be better for my engine or should I stick with regular? I want my truck to last a long time
- I hear air blowing out of my air intake, when I trie to start my 96 Ford F-150? Me and a friend recently replaced the head on my 96 Ford F-150, straight 6. The old head cracked cause it ran hot. When we trie to start it, it sounds good like its about to start but stops when air blows out of the air intake. The distributer was not removed and the plug wires and spark plugs are right, baterey is good. What did we do wrong? Why will it not start?
