$500 truck. With 243,00 miles?

I've always liked the older Ford trucks so I was looking to get one but I didn't want to have to pay several thousands. I was looking online and found a $500 1995 Ford F250 XL, but with around 243,000 miles. There are no issues in the description, and there have been no accidents or recalls. There seems to be a bit a rust, but I don't care much about that. I'm assuming the low price is from the amount of mileage. I love the truck and the price, but is it even worth the price? I don't want to see it break down after only a few weeks of usage. Any thoughts?

Is this going to be an extra vehicle or a daily driver that needs to be reliable? A vehicle that old is basically a project. If it runs and has no serious problems, it is probably worth what they are asking, but it won't have much life left.

Just about any motor vehicle that is running is worth $500. Just make sure the title is clear and registration and inspection are up to date. Will it have the potential to break down the minute you take possession? Absolutely, but that is the risk you take when buying any vehicle for only $500.

Is the clutch good? Engine ok? Check engine light on? Any service records on it?

It's a bag of bits. It won't run for more than a few weeks before needing major money spending. Walk away. Money pit.

Older? That's not older. Go back a couple or more decades.

We used to have a 1995 F250HD XL 351 AutoOD 2WD 4.10 gears at work that was faultless for the 13 years and 138,000 miles that we had it. Never any engine or transmission problems and even no A/C issues. We had put a fiberglass utility body with aluminum diamond plate floor/tailgate on the back in place of the bed and with the body and cab all in bright red it looked like a fire truck. No rust (it was garaged in our warehouse). I thought we could get $5-6000 for it at the time (late 2007), because the utility body alone was worth that to put on another truck, but we ended up selling it for $3500. I imagine it is still out their trucking along.

  • Will a Ford Focus with 116K miles on it do a road trip from the UK to Germany? (2,500 miles)? It's got 116K on the clock, had a new Cambelt 3 months ago, four new tires two weeks ago and drives great, was serviced at the same time as getting the tires done but would it do the road trip? Going over 5 days. Please only answer if you know about cars, I'm not looking for uneducated opinions in the nicest possible way. It might be helpful to add that it's a 2002
  • 2006 Ford Focus with 147k miles or 2005 Hyundai Elantra with 100k miles? Looking for a car for a student, I've received 2 offers, a 2006 Ford Focus for $4000 cash or a 2005 Hyundai Elantra for $4900 with $2000 down and the rest financed. Which would be a better deal? Go with the payment plan or scrap up all my cash? Both cars have been well maintained but can someone who knows cars tell me which would last longer?
  • $500 truck with 250,000 miles. Is it worth it? I was looking at used pick-up trucks online and I found a $500 Ford F250 XL with about 243,000 miles. I love the price of it, but with that amount of miles, is it even worth the buy? There have been no accidents, or recalls or anything. There seems to be a bit of rust, but I don't care much about that. Any suggestions? I d hate to see it stop working after only a few weeks of usage.
