Are you on a hill or are the rear wheels trying to roll making it hard to shift? You pressing the brake too?
Check to see if the brake lights are working. There's a safety interlock between the brakes & the transmission shifter so that the brakes have to be on before this interlock will let you shift out of PARK. *IF* the brake lights both are not working, then the fault is the brake light switch up under the driver's dashboard. Replace the switch & should be okay. Also, not expensive or hard to do.
- My 2000 Ford Taurus won't shift from neutral to reverse or neutral to park? Its curently in neutral but the steering colum shifter will go down to drive or drive 2 and will go back to neutral, but then it stops so I can't back up or park the car.since it doesn't go into park, I can't even take the keys out of the ignition. Any ideas?
- 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 won't shift into drive after being driven. Takes longer than should to shift into drive when first started? It will go in reverse fine. First thing in the morning when I leave for work, it will shift into drive on it's own, but takes a bit longer than it should. After getting it warm, won't shift into drive at all. I can shift down to 1st or 2nd, then back into drive and it will "pop up" into drive within a second or 2. I also have a ODB2 error P1744 (Torque Converter circuit).

- I have a 2007 Ford Five hundred that when I shift when it's off it moves. But when I turn the car on & shift it won't move It's a TBS transmission. It's not making any noise either. I was told it could be computer on the transmission?
