You think manual transmissions will ever come back?

My first car was a 5th gen v6 camaro stick now i own a 350z 6 speed. And I love driving stick. One reason being is 7/8ths of the people now a days don't know how and can't drive my car or ask to take it. But that's also a bad thing that know one knows anymore. But all these cars now are automatic or stupid paddle shifters. And even the paddle shifters aren't fun I drove a camaro ss and you can't even consider that "manual" the "shifting" was delayed and the downshifting just felt so weird. Only cars you can get with a MT seem to be cheap fords or something, sports cars, tuners (evo, sti) jeeps. Like even the new lambos most are paddle shifters. Does anyone think they will have a comeback in the future or do you think the days of a MT are dead?

Depends on the demand. In the states more than 90% of new car sales are automatics. http://business.time.com/2012/08/02/last-gasp-for-the-stick-shift/ Once performance drivers accept that driving a DSG is a better system, the manual will be specialize because production will be very low.

There are still plenty of nice cars you can get with a stick - Honda Accord, Mazda 6, most VW's (the take rate on the manual on the GTI is still over 50%). The list is shrinking unfortunately but there are still options.

They still make them and probably still will for a long time, but they are getting into more of the category of an option instead of base model like they use to. Most people out there do not know how to drive a stick and don't want to learn so manuals are getting more uncommon. It use to be that buying a manual meant you either had the bear bones model or high end sport model. Now the manual is an option and the high end sports models are more often autos with electronic manual shifting.

and paddle shifters are not manuals and never have been, they are automatics with a manual override shift system.

They aren't going to go away. There will be some cars that aren't for pure performance just fun will still have them. Though they won't come back on high end cars that demand performance just because they aren't as fast as a double clutch paddle shifter.

If you really want to be really engaging, drive a manual car without syncros. Now there's a true manual.

They still make them just not as much as they use too people has got lazy I prefer stick over auto it's more fun to drive

They still make them.

There are plenty of cars with manuals in them but they are a dying trend. For the last couple years Ferrari and Lamborghini had to make sure that the buyers of manuals knew that they had to deal with a clutch pedal and moving a lever around because they often didn't realize that paddles are not the same as manual. Eventually their automated manuals (computer controlled clutch rather than a regular automatic which has a fluid coupling) started selling more and they got rid of them. Modern automatics are getting better performance in both fuel economy and speed than manuals so as that technology trickles down to te cheapest cars, the manual gearbox will slowly die out.

personally I love driving manuals but having driven an Audi R8 and Ferrari 360 F1 (with exoticcartours.ca), I also understand the appeal for automated manuals. None of that camaro flappy paddles which is just a regular automatic with some buttons. True automated manuals actually feel great especially on a track/driven hard. I would have to think really hard about choosing either a manual or automated manual in a car if both were available.
