Would the Iran Hostage Crisis have happened if Ford was still president? - 1

Added (1). Let's say that Ford defeated Carter in the 1976 election and was still president when the Ayatollah came to power in Iran. Would Ford have listened to the warnings from the State Department and the embassy about things in Iran or would he have kept the embassy open after letting the Shah come to America?

Probably. I'm guessing Ford would have allowed the Shah to get medical treatment in the US too, which ultimately led to the hostage crisis.

I don't know, but we do know that Nixon manipulated and delayed the hostages' release so he could win the election.

The "Iran Hostage Crisis" would not have been easily resolved if the military rescue mission that President Carter put together and authorized had not been sabotaged to fail just before the election.
Republican Dirty Hands.

Yes. Our foreign policy in the Middle East was very much bipartisan in those days. It would also have been resolved under Carter if the Reagan campaign had not struck a deal with Iran to keep the hostages until after the election. That was what the Iran/Contra scandal was all about. I'm not saying Carter was a great President, because I feel he failed more than succeeded, but we should recognize that Trump is not the first Republican candidate to seek election help from our enemies.
