Why did Ford discontinue the Ford Durango coupe utility in the 80's?

For the same reason Chevy discontinued the El Camino -- lagging sales. Also, it discontinued the Ford Fairmont, the sedan that the Durango was adapted from.
There's only ONE reason a car model is discontinued, lack of buyers.
It did not sell well. If a company is not making money on a product, they ditch it.

The Ford, however, offers AWD, remote start, and somewhat better gas mileage. The Honda, though, is a car I absolutely adore.
