Why did companies become so greedy once Baby Boomers started running them?
Henry Ford believed in paying his employees a fair living wage. Walmart believe in paying 9 dollars a hour
"No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country."
- FDR
It's a shame that our government has boiled down to people making $2,500 per hour convincing people who make $25 per hour that people who make $12 per hour make too much.
They weren't the Greatest Generation
Money was worth more to people back then. Now money sort of lost its value these days.
so it don't matter.
plus there are more and more people working now more women in the work forces less guidance for children.
ford might of doubled some stuff but i hear he wasn't a good person to work for. At least from what i heard.
either way it's a job. And making 5$ a day in that time. For a full 8 hours. In early 1900's right now that would about about 125$ would you take a a factory job in the heat and cold of detroit for 125$ a day. Would you line up like the old school peeople did?
i make more where i'm at. Honestly.
playing on this site most of the time too.
just saying.
so walmart is greedy do you expect them to be henry ford?
Ford believed that because he wanted his workers to be able to buy the cars and advocate for them.
In reality - It's Wall Street creating much or the pressure to keep wages low. Activist investors now sue if they don't get a big enough cut.
Henry Ford paid his employees more so they could afford a Ford. It had nothing to do with generosity.
Henry Ford didn't have international competition. Walmart doesn-- it's called Chinese stuff that you buy on Amazon and ships direct from Hong Kong or China
The owners and CEOs of corporations are to a great extent a self-selected group that is highly motivated by power and avarice compared to everybody else. It doesn't matter what generation they are from. It's just that Baby Boomers are the right age at the present moment.
I don't think history backs you up
Archie Bunker must be laughing his keester off in TVLand heaven now that the young "progressives" that so vilified him are now seen as the cause of so many of today's ills…
Better check LATEST Walmart policies--they are now looking to pay MINIMUM MUCH HIGHER, approaching $ 15 per hour.
- Why don't car companies remake some of their classic car models if people like them so much? Of course safety is in mind because everyone would freak out if they didn't have a seat belt and air bags in every inch of the car, but why can't some of the companies just remake their best selling car models? Dodge could remake their 1948 Sedan and Ford could remake their 1949 Custom. I could list more but I can't think of any more classics.
- When did automobile ownership become common? The Ford Model T was made in 1908. A century later almost every family in United States has a car. In roughly what decade did automobile ownership become common place, eg. More than half of families had one?
- When General Motors was going bankrupt and Obama bailed them out where they for sale to companies like Ford? Were they for sale to companies like Ford or did they refuse to sell out to another company and would rather disappear forever?
