Why can Toyota and Honda not get exterior styling as good as Ford, Mazda, and Subaru? - 1

Toyota has always been pretty white bread. It appeals to a lot of people. I like the new Ford line up to. They have come a long way. Ford's were hideous in 80s and 90s.

Most modern ford cars are designed in Europe so that's why they look good. Honda is stepping up their game. At first I didn't like the 2016 Civic but it looks nice in person

Hi namely because they don't need to stand out as they break down less and are not left on the side of the road to be looked at like a POSERS car.

Funding

Cheap?

Because they don't need to. Styling doesn't necessarily equal sales.

Toyota had 14.7% of the entire US market in 2015.

Ford had 15.4%, but 42% of that was trucks.

Mazda had 1.8% of the US market.

Subaru had 3.5% of the US market.

Toyota relies on quality to sell vehicles (which don't look all that bad, just not as exciting as some others). Styling, on its own, is a very subjective point. Remember when the Chrysler 300 took over the world? Where is it now? Had it been a higher quality product, there's a chance it would still be selling strong.

The spend the time building cars that don't break down. And looks are subjective. Example, there's nothing in the Subaru line I would add to the list of cars with exceptional exterior Styling and I would have on that list the Honda S2000 though they don't make it anymore.

And you became the expert on automotive aesthetics -- when, exactly?

Because Toyota and Honda are aimed at grown ups?

  • Is a joint venture car, like Geos, Vibes, Saturns/Honda, Ford/Mazda or Chrysler/Mitsubishi products rice burner or not? Geos and Vibes were GM/Japanese joint ventures and I read some Chryslers had Mitsubishi parts. Some Saturns had Honda engines. I think Mazda built some cars for Ford or some such, so in my family we called Mazda Japanese Fords, once. However, the cars carried Geo (later Chevy), Pontiac, Saturn, Chrysler (or one of its divisions) or Ford (not sure if Mazda made any cars for their Lincoln-Mercury division) badging.
  • Ford Focus, Mazda 3, Volkswagen Golf, or Subaru Outback? I just turned 16 and I want to buy my own car. First off should I buy New or Used? With the New cars, the safety features are better for a new driver like me. But Used cars will be cheaper. Second, which car? Ford Focus, Mazda 3, Volkswagen Golf, or Subaru Outback are the ones I have been looking at. Also, what specific trim and year is the best? I'm looking for an automatic that has good features throughout the entire car.
  • 2014 Ford Fiesta - exterior lights not turning off? Only noticed today when I caught the reflection off the car in front but I had my lights in the off position (nob in upright position) yet my headlights were still on? I don't have automatic headlights nor do I have the LED Daytime Running Lights (as it's only the zetec model), so I'm a little confused? Any thoughts? Or is it a fault and I need to go back to the garage?
  • Can a Mazda 3 outrun a 2005 Toyota Tacoma or a Ford F-150 in a high speed chase? The car is a 2006 Mazda 3i touring model with a 5 speed manual. I know my car may be underpowered but it has pretty good handling and can do 90 mph at 4000 rpms on top gear. The car has a maximum rpm speed of 6500 rpms.
