What tools will I absolutly need to take on vacation in case my front break pads go on vacation?
2005 Ford Freestar. I think the front pads are ready to go and I'm going to Cedar Pointe Ohio from Royal Oak Michigan; about a 2 hour drive. Done disc brakes on about 4 other cars in the last 5 years, so have good experience. Not much room in the car and can only take the tools I absolutely need. Box wrench (What sizes?), 4 inch C-clamp, brake fluid, and what else? Have a feeling I'm gonna end up doing the brakes in the hotel parking lot. I'm working before the trip so have no time, and also don't know for sure if they're going to go.
Cell phone and a credit card are the only two tools you should need.
Why not just change them before you go?
If they fail on the road the rotors will have to be replaced. I strongly recommend you have the brakes inspected - free nearly everywhere brake work is done - to see how close the brakes are to replacement. A ten minute inspection can save you the hassle of taking things you don't want to need and the added expense of new rotors. Many brake shops are open late.
Change them before you go you are not sure if its the brakes but you are going to put your self and who ever is riding with you and everyone else on
the road in jeopardy by driving a vehicle at highway speeds with a probable brake issue

Alright before I get into this, let me explain that I'm a 17 year old girl that has no one to do my brake pads, and I'm unable to transport my car to a shop. Recently bought a car that needs a brake pad change and decided it'd be a good learning experience to just do them myself. - How to undo bolts on Ford Galaxy 2003 Front & Rear brake caliper to renew disc's and pads? I need to renew the disc's and pads at the front and rear of Ford Galaxy 2003. I have the correct sockets and a large extension bar, but they will not budge (front or rear). I have tried WD40, thinking of trying a little heat, but its a bit near to the brake hoses. All suggestions gratefully received. I have a full workshop manual on this car issued by Ford which just says that they are tightened to 190Nm. The front bolts are huge 27mm and the rear bolts are 18mm.
