What is the best transmission in a 1983 to 1994 Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI for towing manual or automatic?

I seen a lot of OBS Ford 6.9 and 7.3 IDI towing with manual transmission. Very few tow with automatic transmissions. Which is better for Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI towing manual or automatic?

If I were going to buy a used truck I would get the manual just because it is a lot cheaper to replace a clutch than an automatic transmission if you get a bad one.

Modern automatics are much better for towing than manuals.

What do you plan on towing and how many times and how long would it be towed is what we ask our customers

  • Possible engine swap from 3.0 to 4.0 on 1994 Ford Ranger XL 4x4 manual? I'm wondering if I can drop a V6 4.0L engine straight into a V6 3.0L Ford Ranger XL? Both are 1994 ford rangers, everything the same as far as model/year just different size engine… And if not, what would need to be converted? I found a 4.0 for $250 with 0 miles so if its as simple as swapping engines/trannys I'm going to go for it… Thanks for help!

I don't know how to drive a stick-shift, but I really want to learn how to. And plus it's cheaper. But it's my first car, so I don't know if I should just go with automatic or what. Any suggestions?
