Vibration/thumping in front suspension. More than likely.drivers front

2002 Ford Sport Trac Vibration/thumping. More speed, the more it vibrates, shakes, and makes the thump thump thump sound. Passenger side mirror shows no sign of movement… Drivers side mirror shakes quite a bit. No noticeable noises other than the thumping. No hard pulling to either side in steering wheel. No difference when braking. Any input would be very much appreciated!

Try rotating the tires. You may have a flat spot or cupping.

Check the CV Axle if it is 4wd. Also check the tires, look for an unusual wear pattern compared to the other tires. Possible CV axle, Bad wheel bearing.

Sounds like you've got a ply separating in that tire, rendering it unbalanced. UNSAFE TO DRIVE! Get that tire replaced NOW.

Tire could be unbalanced. Could have a rock stuck in the tread. You should look.

  • Drove over hill too fast and car is making a thumping noise? I have a 2003 ford focus. Today I was driving and went to make a turn fast and went up a hill and it hit my car and made a loud noise. When pulled up my car started making a thumping noise I thought that it was the tire but when I popped the good and accelerated while in drive the engine was moving up it's still running fine but moving and making a thump when accelerating. What could be wrong with it please help.

  • 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4X4 Re: Vibration/thumping like sound. Drivers front Someone mentioned the transfer case. Someone responded to that inquiry… They said it probably wasn't the transfer case that would lead to a specific side being affected, but that it COULD be the U-joint in the drive axle. Would that be the U-joint that couples the transfer case to the "short shaft"? If so, if I remove the short shaft, should the vibration/thumping stop? Any input will be greatly appreciated!
