Ticking noise coming from engine?
Ever since I replaced the spark plugs in my 01 Ford Sport Trac, I've been hearing a clicking noise coming from the engine on the driver's side. One plug I replaced had been cross threaded, so I had to buy a tap to repair the threads in the block in order to get the new plug in. They were Bosch plugs. I read later that Bosch typically doesn't work too well in Ford engines, so I switched 3 of them out with Motorcraft. Still, the noise persists. It starts in idle, but gets louder and more frequent with increase in RPM's, and quiets down when set at a steady speed and decelerating. I have pulled each plug wire off one by one to see if they are the cause, and I still hear it. I feel like it has something to do with the plugs because it started after the initial replacement. Any suggestions on what this could be, or how serious it is? It's very annoying. The vehicle has 203k miles for additional information.
Check the plugs again, make sure they are in tight. Motorcraft is best in Ford engines, so replace the rest of the Bosch.
Not likely but the reach might be too long. But I think if you were hitting the plug you would know it. If a plug boot is not fully seated it can make a ticking sound. Watch the engine in the dark. You may see a fireworks display.
This might be lifter noise or even rod knock, broken ring etc etc. Most likely something in the valve train.
Ticking noise is quite horrible in our vehicles, mostly with old engine we have found these kinds of problems. But with new engine whenever we have found anything serious or ticking; we should understand that there's some trouble. So it is quite better to visit a professional mechanic to deal with these kinds of problems.
- Ticking noise coming from engine? - 1 I have a 1978 Ford Ranchero and there's a ticking noise coming from the passenger side In engine. And this car was given to me and I had my camshaft, timing chain set, and all 16 lifters changed what can this noise be? Could it be from a bad rocker arm? And what can I do to quiet this noise. I'm broke so I can't do any further expensive repairs
- Rattling noise coming from passenger side possibly engine when going up steep hills, for ranger? I ave a 2007 ford ranger and recently when going up hills there has been a rattling noise that seems to come from the passenger side towards the engine or front of the truck. What could cause this? I also recently had an oil change, and they put 5w30 in instead of the recommended 5w20, could any of this be a cause?
- Weird noise coming from bottom of my car? Ok so i own a 2002 Ford Mustang GT, and there has been this weird, weird rattling noise coming from beneath my car. I'm running an SLP loudmouth aftermarket exhaust and i'm wondering if thats the issue. I'm no mechanic, so i wanna know what i'm gonna be dealing with before i go see for myself. I'm 16 years old as well, I'm also running a bbk offroad x pipe and stock headers(its pretty loud), so i'm wondering if that may be part of the problem too
- Humming Noise coming from under the hood. Any ideas? I have a 2008 Ford Fusion SE 4 Cylinder with 78,000 miles on it. When I accelerate I hear a humming noise coming from the front. The higher the RPM's the louder it gets. The sound begins after 1000 RPM's. I sat it and parked it and put my foot on the gas pedal and went up to 4,000 RPMS and it sounded like a siren you would hear in the movies for like code red or something I don't know. I have no idea what it may be. Answers would be very much appropriated.
