Which of these should be my first car?
I have narrowed it down to two cars. Parents are paying half of the payment each month. One car is at a local dealership. It is a 2004 Ford Taurs ses with 138,000 miles. Very basic silver V6 front wheel drive sedan. The price is $5,200. The other option is from a family friend. Its a 1995 lincoln mark viii. A top of the line luxurious coupe. Witb 76,000 miles. Has a large V8. Has tons of features such as heated seats. Moonroof. All the bells and whistles. Now this car is rear wheel drive and we have some pretty bad winters where i live BUT it has traction control. The taurus does not. So RWD + traction control vs. FWD without TC. This one costs $4,000 and has been used very gently by an elderly man. Gas consumption is quite similar surprisingly. Safety is same. Insuance is $30 cheaper a month. The lincoln seems better due to value and reliability but my mom is scared of the big engine and RWD in the winter. Which makes more sense for a 16 year old?
The Lincoln is the better car for anybody. You can learn to drive RWD in snow, I did with a Camaro and do now with a Grand Marquis and a van. LOVE rwd. If you can swing the insurance, go with the Lincoln.
