What's with the Pickup Trucks guys?
Outside of the city and close suburbs of NYC where they all drive their fancy little luxury cars to compete and show off, everywhere else there's pickup trucks seemingly EVERYWHERE. 80 percent of em I see are not hauling or towing. I may be wrong, but my philosophy is its a rebellion against city folks, showing they're these tough and macho good ole boy country guys. And the good ole boys compete with other guys as to who has the better truck. When the gas is more expensive and upkeep, wouldnt a cheaper ford taurus be the more reasonable and sensible vehicle since they're not using the back side that much, and only using it to get from point A to point B. What's the secret i'm missing, is it just that group mindset and following others.
I'm hauling something at least once a week, often daily. You are probably one of those who whine about trucks until you need a buddy with a truck to help you move something
Never once have I needed a pickup truck, or ask someone for it. I never ask anyone for anything, and get a Uhaul or whatever if I have to move. I'm a USAF veteran and not a dweeby liberal if that's what you were thinking. On the otherhand, if you're using it then that's completely fine and understandable. People in construction jobs, blue collar jobs and businesses. I just don't see many of the trucks actually doing what they were intended to do.
A truck is more useful. I don't have a lift kit or anything like that on my truck because I think that's stupid. It's a bone stock 2007 Chevy Silverado 4x4. Yeah, I know I work at a Chrysler dealer but I love my truck. I'd consider trading it for a Ram if the price is right. I wouldn't buy a new Chevy, though, because I don't like Mary T. Barra, the CEO of General Motors, and I just wouldn't give my money to that hag.
Since gas is so cheap pickups and suv's are in fashion these days. It is the current trend and status symbols.
I go out to the desert a lot, pulling a trailer. My truck has a towing option, which includes a transmission temperature Gage, extra strong rear springs, and special mirrors. I sometimes even use my truck bed as a bed when the weather permits. Point being, I USE my truck. I LIKE my truck. I'll buy ANOTHER truck, if I live long enough.
I LOVE my truck! Since I own my home and do some of my own maintenance on it, I'm always going to the lumber yard or hardware store to buy materials, or hauling scrap to the dump. I own a Ram 1500 with the "EcoDiesel" engine and it gets an average of 24 miles per gallon, so fuel mileage isn't really an issue, and the 4x4 DOES come in handy in the winter months.
Easily 50% of people choose their car, clothes, home or whatever based on what they think others think. We're herding animals, followers.
Blew my mind years ago here in CA when everyone had a lowered truck but all of a sudden they were taking their low rider in to be lifted just as high as they could get it. Then soon after every soccer mom needed a diesel to haul their kids to school. These are city folks.
I've been driving a Ford Ranger for many years.
Sometimes I move things. Sometimes I tow things. It's a versatile but boring looking vehicle.
I drive a very nicely restored, upgraded and modified Porsche Cayman.
I also drive a FORD F350 crewcab.
The car is parked in a rented garage in the city and rarely driven. The reason being that it would never make it up the road to my house. And the Porsche would make for a very poor tow vehicle for my horse trailer.
- Does a guys car/truck play a role in if you'll go out with him or not? I was just curious, mainly if girls like guys on trucks over cars or how that works? I know my girlfriend knows little about vehicles but thinks that guys should drive a truck "because it's just more manly" Just curious if girls would rather date a guy in a Mazda 3, Subaru WRX, Ford Mustang, Ford f150, Chevy 1500 or lifted s10, ranger or something As opposed to an old beater corolla, accord or something with little horse power and isn't really fun to look at or drive.
- Aren't you amazed by the capabilities and the size of today's full-size pickup trucks? I drive a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT 4x2 with a 4.0 liter V6 (~245 ci.) engine. I was looking up the specs for early-mid 1960s F100s (considered full-size), and they have nearly the same GVWR, towing capacity, payload, horsepower, wheelbase, and height as my "compact" truck. In your opinion, do you think today's full-size trucks are amazing or too fancy/over-sized (a traditionalist like me)? P.S.: I like all American vehicles
- Any new interesting news about Gm, Ford or mopar performance vehicles coming out in 2018,2019? Trucks, cars, trucks, SUVs, Hatchbacks? Mopars has brought out extreme amounts of muscle cars, trucks, SUVs, full size and mid size sedans. Other than cadillac is there any other American an brands coming to compete? Or is mopar going to compete with the raptor/Shelby for trucks or for small/hatchback against Ford and there focus st/r's?
- Why do so many white guys like ford trucks? I would bet money of all the vehicles sold in the USA that the f150 has the highest percentage of Caucasian male buyers than any other model. It actually seems that percentage is getting higher with newer models. So why do so many like ford? I noticed white males tend to buy more trucks than any other group but the f150 has the least diverse group of buyers, at least here in texas. Why doesn't ford appeal to other groups as much? Just my observation.
