Should I wait until I graduate to buy a car?

I'm a 16 year old guy and I'm having trouble deciding whether to buy a car next year or wait until I graduate from high school. I worry about older cars with higher miles because they could be great or they could have little time left. I live in a place where everything is pretty much a 5 minute walk. My family memebers and my parents friends will let me drive their cars whenever I need them or they'll give me a ride so, I don't really need a car. If I buy a car when I graduate, it will be 5-6 years old and will me going to college with me. What should I do? The older car might be something like an old Crown Victoria with high miles. The newer cars I want are either a 2010-12 Ford Taurus AWD or a 2011 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD. What should I do? Should I wait until I graduate from high school or buy one next year?

Added (1). I'm not buying yet. I want to know which plan is the better one.

You need to total all of the costs involved in vehicle ownership to help with your dilemma… Initial price, insurance, licensing, maintenance, emergency funds, fuel, etc

Buy a car in the last minute of situation needing a car.
as times goes on, situation may change, situation in the last minute of needing a car affect buying decision.

  • My car won't start until I've waited a few minutes? I have a Ford Taurus SES and this morning I tried to start it and couldn't. I tried 3 times but it wouldn't work, the engine turned but wouldn't start. After waiting 2-3 minutes it started like normal. My battery is pretty new and is reading steadily at 13.8 volts. I don't see any problems with the connections either, no corrosion, everything looks like it's in good shape. Any thoughts?
  • Entire car loses power when we floor the gas. Gauges reset until we let off gas. (still drives) 02 ford mustang. The car loses power to everything. (Except what's needed for the vehichle to stay running.) Can still drive it. What are possible problems? (AC does not affect anything )
  • Should I buy a Ford Focus Zx3 or should I look for a different car? I'm a male going to college as a sophmore next semester (this car will be my first car). Should I buy a stick or an automatic (I don't know how to drive a stick at the moment, but I'm willing to learn)? What do you think would be more fun? Do you think a ford focus Zx3 is a good car for me or do you have any other car suggestions?
  • Is it cheaper to keep a vehicle until you run it into the ground or to buy a new one every 2-5 years? I bought my used 2003 Ford Focus back in 2006. Owned until 2014. I started having to take it to the shop more often than I could afford. So I bought a newer Subaru Forester which I hope to keep for a good 10 years or more. I noticed that a lot of people buy new vehicles every few years. Is it so they don't have to worry about the cost of repairs you would have with keeping an aging car? Or is buying a new car every 10 or 15 years better?
