Permanently Disable Seatbelt Alarm on 2007 Ford taurus?

Before you jump on me for not wearing a seatbelt, let me explain:
My alarm is short circuiting somewhere and I'm not sure where. When it is raining/even just moisture in the air, my car seatbelt alarm goes off while I'm wearing it. Anyone who has heard a ford alarm would know how annoying this can get. Also, yes I realize this is a bigger issue, etc, but i don't need a lecture on safety, in the meantime I just need the loud ringing to stop. I'm not trying to beat the system, I have had siblings lives saved by seatbelts and know their importance, this is just too loud of a ringing to concentrate.

I do know the trick with the key in "on position," 9 clicks, etc. Etc. But this does not work at all with the moisture. Is there a fuse to pull, wire to pull, anything that will make it permanently stop?

Park the vehicle, turn off the ignition and engage the emergency brake. Disconnect the driver's safety belt and the passenger's safety belt.

Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "On" position, but don't start the engine. Wait for one minute for the seat belt light on the instrument panel to turn off.

Fasten and unfasten your seat belt very quickly nine times. At the end of this, the airbag light will turn on for 10 seconds.

Wait for the seat belt light to shut off, then quickly fasten and unfasten your seat belt.

Wait for the seat belt light to flash on the instrument panel four times. This tells you that the seat belt alarm has been disabled. If you don't see this light flash, repeat the steps.

Long story short there's not really any good way to disable the seatbelt alarm entirely without disabling other things that you probably want to continue working. You could just pull the seatbelt bulb from the instrument cluster and disable the warning chime… But there are probably times you want to hear the warning chime for other reasons so I wouldn't personally do that to my own car.

The seatbelt alarm will sound if a certain amount of weight is detected on EITHER front seat if the belt for that seat isn't buckled. My guess is you either have a bad weight sensor on the front passenger seat (it's sensing weight that isn't really there) OR maybe you are just placing something with some weight in the passenger seat when the problem happens and the alarm is going off because weight is detected but the belt isn't buckled.

You can diagnose if it's the weight sensor in the passenger seat causing the problem by buckling the front passenger side seat belt even when nothing is in the seat. If that stops the seatbelt alarm from going off, then you've probably got a faulty/malfunctioning weight sensor in the passenger seat.

If the alarm is going off simply because you're carrying stuff on the passenger seat without the belt buckled, then the system is operating as intended and your choices are limited to buckling the belt while carrying stuff on the passenger seat satisfy the system or to find a different place to put whatever you're carrying so there's no weight detected on the seat.

If going to Ford, and getting this repaired properly is not an option, find the module that has the actual beeper on it and disable it. If you don't feel that you could do this, try some local shops or speedometer repair places but be prepared that some won't touch this due to liability issues.
As this beeper is used for other warning functions, be extra vigilant at watching those warning lights, should the beeper become disabled.

Ask your Ford dealer.

  • How to remove/disable the alarm on a 97 ford Taurus? The alarm goes off every so often for no reason even when the car is completely unlocked, according to the manual the fuse that controls the alarm also controls some other more vital systems so can't just be removed, does anyone have any suggestions on how to quickly and easily disable the alarm, short of disconnecting the battery completely every time we're not in the car?
  • How to disable the chime in a 2001 ford e150? I want to disable all chimes in the car. When the headlights are on, the car dings sporadically and it drives me nuts. Is there a fuse anywhere that I can remove or is there a more complex solution? I have removed the front plastic trim from the dash and am currently looking for the chime.
  • How to disable the indicator beeping in my 05 Ford F-150 XL Triton? I have problems with processing sound and little repetitive noises drive me insane. To be clear, the sound I'm referring to occurs when say the driver door is open with the keys still in the ignition without the truck running or when the seatbelt indicator is active. I'm afraid that if I do not disable this beeping that I will lose control and destroy my truck if I do not find the source of this incessant beeping and quiet it for good. Any leads or DIY instructions are welcomed!
  • How to disable ford alarm system? I've been trying to install a aftermarket stereo in my 2006 f150 king ranch. It just won't crank when it's all wired in. I was told it's because of the security system or the factory sub. When I put in the factory stereo back in it would crank right up? Any ideas?
