Aftermarket Stereo Wiring Harness for 2003 Ford Taurus SE?

I recently bought a stereo, along with a wiring harness to plug into the factory one so I wouldn t have to worry with wires.
This is the harness I bought https://www.walmart.com/...3=&veh=sem
I got all the power wires from the stereo hooked up to the aftermarket harness. The stereo has power and works fine.
The problem is, there are 8 speaker wires going from the stereo, and only 3 wires are left on the adapter.
Only one of the wires is labeled: "left rear -"
I'm at an impass and could really use some advice!

That's not the right harness for your vehicle at all. That one's only for the 1998-99 Taurus, and it's designed to be used together with Metra's 99-5715LD dash kit, which includes the rest of the wiring you need if you had that vehicle. (Ford changed the plug design in 1998, so the harness you purchased was meant to let people use the older kit with the newer plug).

The true wiring harness for your vehicle is included with the 99-5716 installation kit. The speaker harness is 16' long because it has to be routed to your trunk where the factory tuner/amp is located. There's also an antenna extension because the factory antenna connector is in the trunk as well. There are no speaker wires or antenna plugs at the front in the factory "radio" cavity--you must run wires to the trunk in this vehicle.

You could probably get the Metra 70-5601 harness and use it together with the one you already have, and get the new head unit working that way. This assumes you already have a dash mounting kit. If not you may as well buy the 99-5716, which comes with everything you'd need.

So you don't short your car wiring harness out… Go up to your local car stereo shop and have them do it. Ask them if you can watch and learn from it from the professionals. Use those words they will probably only charge you less than 60, just do it and enjoy your weekend it can turn into issues you don't even want if you do something wrong

  • Is there a stereo harness guide for a 2015 ford taurus? I'm trying to wire 2 10' kickers with a 600w amp into a factory stereo without having to replace any of the stock parts. I have a output line converter but I don't know exactly which wires, if any, that I need to splice in order to put the converter in as well as the ground wire for the amp. If any information that can help me get this project moving is greatly appreciated.
  • Installing Aftermarket Head Unit in 2003 Ford Taurus SES? I can't figure out the wiring situation. I got the harness that runs all the way back to the trunk; however, it only has 9 wires. Two for each of the four speakers (8) and one to control an amp if applicable. However, while the wires from the head unit have two power wires, the harness has none. The head unit I got is a DEH-X6700BS. Please help, how do I power this head unit when the wiring harness has no wires for power, only speaker wires?!

  • Aftermarket stereo issues? I bought and installed an aftermarket stereo for my '96 Ford Ranger. After I installed it I realized that the fuse in my truck is 7.5 amps while the stereo seems to need 10 amps. Is there anyway I can easily raise the power or do I need to wire the stereo directly to the battery?
