2004 ford Taurus SE 3.0 misfire problems?

My parents have a 2004 ford Taurus SE. 3.0 when you start it up in the morning it'll misfire like something fierce. After the idle drops. The car seems to run better. But while driving it it'll misfire at random. When going up a hill, or when you hit the gas hard, today 3/19/18 i drove it punched it down ran fine. I slowed the car down to 45 then after about a mile it started to misfire and smelt exhaust and gas fumes. I'm stuck i don't know what to do i changed the T.P.S. The ignition coil. The spark plugs. After i changed all of that i busted all of the insides out of the cat. Runs A LOT BETTER but still has that miss fire. And i'm not sure why below are a list of the codes that are on the car there 8 codes

p0174 too lean bank 2. (what is bank 2)

p0302 cylinder 2 misfire detected

p0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected.

p0316 engine misfire detected on stat up (first 1000) revolutions.

p0353 ignition coil C primary secondary circuit.

p0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1 (what is bank one)

p0171 system to lean on bank 1.

p0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

It has ignition problems. You skipped changing the spark plug wires, for what I don't know. Too lean, may be caused by an intake vacuum leak or bad signal from O2 sensors because of ruch exhaust from misfire- and those will never be right again until you replace the cat you destroyed. The battery could be weak and giving weak spark until the alternator juices it up enough. Have the battery checked. Take a look at the charging system fuse to make sure it hasn't popped. When it does, the battery won't charge anymore. Many good alternators are replaced needlessly when this happens.

Troubleshoot. Buy or rent a smoke machine. Buy a spark tester or a test light. Buy or rent a noid light set.

With the smoke machine, check for a vacuum leak. Intake manifold gaskets are likely bad and/or vacuum hoses are leaking. Replace the PCV valve and check for a stuck open EGR valve. With the spark tester or test light, check for spark on cylinders 2 and 3. Check for spark coming out of the plug and coming out of each coil. With the noid light, check if the injectors are getting command to fire. Listen to the injectors (check closely on cylinders 2 and 3) with a long screwdriver to see it they are firing.

You will need to replace the bank 1 cat when the misfires are gone. Good luck.

  • Will a 2006 taurus auto transmission fit a 2004 ford taurus? I have a 2004 ford taurus with an auto transmission. At first it was jumping out of overdrive, now it won't go in to overdrive and it slips.
  • What causes problems starting a car and the engine to misfire going over 60 mph? This problem started about two months ago. I have a 2006 Ford Taurus. So far no mechanic can figure out the problem. They have replaced all of the spark plugs (numerous times because they keep going bad), an engine coil, the crankshaft position sensor, the battery, did a tune-up, ran a $100 diagnostic test and still the problem occurs. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I forgot that they also did a coolant flush.
  • 2004 ford taurus problems? I have a 2004 Ford Taurus. I'm having jerking issues with it. I can drive it to a couple of places around town, then once I stop at a stop sign or red light it start to jerk. It want jerk while I'm driving. Just after a stop. Then check transmission light come on. I know it's not low on fluid, and the fluid is not dirty. Can someone please help with this.
  • Shifting problems and intake problems? I drive a 1997 ford ranger with a 2.3l automatic. I have recently experienced a hard shifting in my truck even when I'm not on the gas it has problems shifting. And I cleaned my air filter and filter hose that goes to my throttle body and there was transmission fluid in the hose. What can be causing this and how can I fix it or how much will it cost roughly?
