2003 ford taurus stays in idle and has a cylinder misfire

I have a 2003 ford taurus and one day I was driving home and the street to turn on to my apartment has a sort of a deep slope and once I went up it my car made this loud noise and stalled into idle. After pushing it down the street I had a friend check the diagnostic reader and it said cylinder 1 misfire. The engine turns over When started but it is still making that Loud noise and stays in idle, my grandma's friend said it might be the tranny but I don't want to sell it if the problem is fixable. Can anyone help?

Also I have replaced the number 1 spark plug, but nothing changed.

A miss can be caused by a number of different things, but the transmissions not going to be one. If you changed the spark plug it could still be the wire or the distributor cap. You could try changing those (cheap). There could also be something wrong with an injector. Number one could be stuck open or the wire connection could be bad. It also could be a loose wire to the computer, making that cylinder not fire at all.
I would check the distributor and wires first

  • Car acceleration problem and idle problem. The car is a 2003 Ford Taurus? . When the car is running and in parked its making a loud consisted rev noise. However the rpm needle thingy is not moving. when i'm in drive the car acclerates on its own with the speed ever increasing. i did some googling and learned that it can be the TPS sensor or the idle air intake valve, among a million other possiblities.

It's a 4 cylinder truck I don't know what the hell is the problem at this point very frustrated and just completely annoyed by it does anyone have the slightest idea of what this could be?
  • I bought an Actron CP9125 Code Reader to try and diagnose a rough idle at cold start on a 98 Ford 4.0 engine. The rough idle had not caused? The CEL to come on. I plugged the code reader in with just the key on and pressed read and the little asterisk goes half-way across the screen one time and stops. I press the read button again and it reads 0 codes. I was thinking it would scan multiple times to check for pending codes or other issues. I tried it with the engine running and the same thing happens. Is this code reader operating properly?
