1997 ford Taurus V6 3.0 sadan gl?

In my 97 Taurus my oil pan gasket slipped out of place and i have to add 2 qts of oil to cat every 4 days. Yes it is my daily driver but my oil light dose not come on and it dose not over heat. Oil light comes on when i first put the key in and turn on acc but then shuts off when running? Should it turn on if oil is to low? I got the gasket replaced but was just wondering. Any idea?

If the gasket was replaced and the oil filled to the right capacity, then there's nohing to worry aboiut

UPDATE -

Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light
[LG04900(ALL)02/95] This light indicates the engine's oil pressure, not
the oil level. However, if the engine's oil level is
low, it could affect the oil pressure. The light
should come on every time the ignition key is
turned to the ON or START position, and
should turn off after the engine is running.

If the light stays on or turns on when the engine
is running, the engine has lost oil pressure and
continued operation will cause severe engine
damage

It's supposed to tell you if your oil is low that is it's purpose the sensor could be broken I'd recommend buying a cheap diagnostic scanner if you plan on maintaining your own car they will give you a code that will tell you if a senor isn't working or something's broken

The warning light is supposed to come on when you first turn the ignition on, that's to prove it is working. That's normal. If it then goes out when the engine is running there's no problem now you've had the leak fixed and topped up.

Your car is fixed. The oil light is an oil pressure switch, it is on with key ON, engine OFF and should go off with key ON, engine running if the oil pressure is good. If the oil light stays on with engine running, oil pressure is low and and you should turn off the engine immediately. The oil light is not an oil level (quantity) sensor. Check the oil level with the dipstick.

In my 97 Taurus my oil pan gasket slipped out of place and i have to add 2 qts of oil to cat every 4 days.
Even if engine oil circulated through the Catalytic Converter, which is doesn't, it wouldn't be physically possible to add oil directly to the Cat
The oil pan gasket can fail, but is CAN'T slip out of place.
If your engine was losing oil anywhere near as fast as you claim, you wouldn't have been able to drive to wherever you allegedly had the repairs made.

By the time the oil pressure warning light comes on you're already over 2 quarts low and damaging the bearings. Make sure you don't have a bad oil pressure warning light sending unit. They leak a lot of oil when bad.

  • Will a 2006 taurus auto transmission fit a 2004 ford taurus? I have a 2004 ford taurus with an auto transmission. At first it was jumping out of overdrive, now it won't go in to overdrive and it slips.
  • What Ford Taurus bumpers (front or rear) would fit a 2003 ford Taurus ses? Looking around and seen someone with a 2004 front bumper on a 2003. Looks nice but curious if any other bumpers would fit? I installed new centennial edition headlights with Silver Star Ultra lights. here's what it looks like so far.
  • Transmission harsh engagement (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? When I shift from park to reverse or drive and even when i put it in park it engages very harshly. What could be the problem? Please recommend a fix.
  • Transmission fluid change or flush or both (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? I just got a 1997 Ford Taurus GL with over 133000 miles. The car is in pretty good shape but when I shift gears it shifts kind of hard. I have no idea if the trans has ever been serviced but my guess is that it need to be. Would you recommend just draining the pan, changing the filter and gasket and replenishing the fluid or should I do a flush? Not a power flush. Just using an extension hose to drain the old fluid and add new fluid. Or do you recommend both? If so, in what order?
