Why won't my truck hood close?

I bought a 2004 2.3 ford ranger. It has the hood of an older model ranger (2002 i believe) so there's a one inch gap from the headlights to the hood. It looks cosmetically terrible so I went to a salvage yard and got the appropriate hood. I installed it and now it looks fine. The problem is that the hood won't close/hook into place. It's as if the hood striker isn't long enough. Could it be that they also installed an older model hood latch on the truck and that's why the striker won't reach?

If it's close, possibly just adjust latch assembly up a little so striker can close the latch. Or if hood needs to go down some adjust bumpers down. Or go back to salvage yard and get latch assembly for that hood.
