How to replace wheel bearings on a 94 ford ranger 2x4 front and back-Any special tool needed?
Lot of slop up and down when I shake tire when jacked up, and hums down the road, is this causing the humming
Only common hand tools can be used to change out the wheel bearings on 2WD models. 4WD models needs a special socket to change out the wheel bearings. In ether case once new bearings are purchased and packed by hand the larger bearing goes to the outside of the rotor as once the wheel assembly is taken off you have a chance to inspect the brakes as you could end up replacing the pads.
Depends on what kind of bearings (sealed vs roller bearings) but most can be removed and installed with just a hammer and a brass punch.
To do it right, a tool that presses on the outer race of the bearings and an arbor press is required… After you take the steering knuckle off.
