1997 ford fiesta has failed its wheel bearings whilst driving?

I had to stop because the 2 rear wheels wouldve fallen off, got the AA out and the boy said to me that the rear wheel bearings have gone inside the drum?
how bad on damge do you think its caused because if its too much i'm scrapping it?

Both went at the same time? Possible but it seems like I'm not getting the full story… Anyway. If the fiesta isn't that rusty and the engine has some life in it and looks like it could be driven for at least 10k miles… Fix it… Even if you got to replace a few components… You should if feasible…

They never fail that suddenly and together unless they were both recently replaced incompetently. Even then there will have been a lot of audible warning long before they failed completely.

Fixing them is usually straightforward, but depending upon the damage you may be looking at needing a few extra parts such as rear drums and stub axles. If the drums do need changing then the rear brake shoes will also need replacement. The rear tyres may also have been worn very unevenly and require replacement.

My concern is that if you (or if you've recently bought the car, a previous owner) has severely neglected the rear bearings for so long then the rest of the car is likely to be in a similar condition.

Fiestas are cheap and easy to maintain, what usually kills them is insurance write offs or corrosion. If the body is solid and if there's definitely not much else wrong with the car then repairs will cost less than replacing the car. Anything cheap is also likely to have a litany of faults.

I will say everything thats wrong with it then

it leaks on thermostat housing and inside car when raining, i have a big hole in the passenger side floor that i may get welded, it keeps popping fuses all the time, both sills are shot, and the engine needs a good tuneup. Ohh and the steering rack keeps going, handbrake doesn't work either.
