1992 Ford Ranger transmission fluid change problem? Manual
I know where the fill and drain thing is under the truck and also that you can go inside the truck and unscrew the screws on the shift thing. Problem is I can't get enough torc to get the fill bolt off and I don't have money to take it to stop and no body I know has one of those air things so don't say use that cause I would it I could. As for the inside of it I can't get the screws off because they are stripped and don't say use a drill and unstrip then cause I don't have all the right tools for that and don't expect anyone to help me. Their is these two holes about 2 inches long and 1 inch wide when you look in the engine towards the transmission position, i was wondering if I could just put fluid into that or is that not the transmission? Literally if you look way back and its kinda towards the ground that s where the two holes are. Please help me with this I have had this problem for three days with no help.
You need to look at google and maybe youtube to see if there's videos to help you… I have never heard of having to remove the shifter to replace the fluid, so don't mess with the shifter
Go buy a breaker bar for the tight plug. If you're actually dealing with screws, it's your problem for using a low quality screwdriver. Try using vice grips to loosen the screws. As for changing the transmission fluid, take both drain and fill plugs off, put the drain plug back in and fill. You may have to pump the tranny fluid in.
I sure hope you have the right fill plug. Should have either a square or hex head and they don't usually require a great deal of torque to remove them. An 8 inch box end or an eight inch pipe wrench (depending on whether it's hex or square headed) should suffice. Leave the shifter alone as you don't fill through that or through any other holes in the truck.
You sound like you should never work on a vehicle! If you don't have a clue what you're doing leave it alone. You don't undo the shift lever to change ATF!
Go to a motorcycle shop and get an impact driver that you use a hammer on. Don't knock a hole in the transmission- you don't need to hit that hard.
You're asking, but you say: Don't say…
Lol.
WHY would you want to take the shifter off?
All that wasted work!
And a gasket!
GET THE PROPER TOOL(S)!
My Ranger uses ATF in the 5-speed.
What about yours?
- Transmission fluid change or flush or both (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? I just got a 1997 Ford Taurus GL with over 133000 miles. The car is in pretty good shape but when I shift gears it shifts kind of hard. I have no idea if the trans has ever been serviced but my guess is that it need to be. Would you recommend just draining the pan, changing the filter and gasket and replenishing the fluid or should I do a flush? Not a power flush. Just using an extension hose to drain the old fluid and add new fluid. Or do you recommend both? If so, in what order?
