Need a way to find a classic car?
My dad had a ford galaxie from the 60's when he was younger. Lately hes been talking more and more about it. He talks about alot of the cars he had but this 1 in particular he seems like he misses the most. I don't know the vin number or the license plate number. I might be able to get the license plate number off of him but i don't know if he will remember. Is there anyway i can go about finding the vin number of the car by simply using his name? Normally i know alot of people wouldnt consider it because a lot of names are common but his name is 1 of 3 on record threw out the united states so his name isn't common at all.
Most likely, the car had ended up in the junkyard by now.
I actually remember the Ford Galaxie 500, My father owned one, then bought a Ford LTD. This was in the range of 1964-1968. I drove the LTD to my senior prom in 1968. (Yeah, I'm that old.)
You can check with the state the car was registered in back in the 1960s and see if they have records of owners and registrations. I doubt they will, but it's always possible. Check with that state's Department of Motor Vehicles.
Hope that helps.
It has likely been crushed and recycled long, long ago. Odds of finding the car without an in at the DMV willing to risk his/her job to find it are thin.
Better off looking for a good original ($$$$$) or restored ($$$$) one.
As Ian said, Its most likely been scrapped for money. If you have the money, find a refurbished one on craigslist, or get one and have it refurbished. You would be paying some high dollars tho. Just searched on Craigslist and found one that runs for 4,500$, just for an estimate. Doesn't look all that nice however.
Classic cars by definition become 'classic' due to rarity. The chances of this car still being 'alive' is pretty darn slim!
Check out the 'Classic Car' publications and buy a similar vehicle to 'revive the memory' !
The times I have visited classic car shows and thought "My dad had one of those… If only I had it now"
- Why don't car companies remake some of their classic car models if people like them so much? Of course safety is in mind because everyone would freak out if they didn't have a seat belt and air bags in every inch of the car, but why can't some of the companies just remake their best selling car models? Dodge could remake their 1948 Sedan and Ford could remake their 1949 Custom. I could list more but I can't think of any more classics.
- Which classic car is bigger? My dad has a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Conv. I made a wise crack to him one time that I wanted a 1958 Plymouth Fury (Christine). He said that that the car was bigger then the Galaxie. But I was at work today and said something to a co-worker and they said the Fury is a good deal smaller then the Galaxie. I never got to see a '58 Fury in person so I was wanting to know, thanks.
- Where in the UK can I hire a classic american car for self drive, ie, as driver not passenger? I want to hire a classic car preferably something like a dodge charger or ford 69 gto for a day or two as a gift to a petrol head, obviously I want him to be able to drive the car himself. We're London based but could be in surrounding areas to pick up the car.
- What classic car should I buy? I'm a 16 year old boy, making some money this summer and throughout the next year. I really want a "classic" car (1970-1985 ish); what old cars are easy and cheap to maintain compared to other cars of their era. I like a lot of cars, Volvo, BMW, Saab, Mercedes, Acura, Audi, VW, Ford, Olds, Pontiac… I LOVE the look of old Jaguars, and I always see them for sale with low miles and a low price, but I know they're terrible to own… Thanks
