Why won't my 2003 Ford Mustang start?

Lately I've been having trouble with my mustang not starting after heavy rain which sometimes leads to flooding. The engine is turning, but does not catch and start. Leading up to this when I sometimes had to go through puddles I couldn't avoid, say an inch of water, the engine would start to lose power about 2 or 3 minutes later. It would sometimes even slow me down to a crawl. If I had to turn off the engine shortly after, before I had run it long enough to "burn the water off" I suppose, the car would not start again. Currently it is refusing to start and parked in the street right where the rain runs off, and we've had a lot of rain recently. Is it the fuel system? Do I just need to replace the fuel filter?

Added (1). Previously when I had this problem in the car, I would pump the gas pedal and it would eventually catch and start. I know this vehicle is fuel injected, but pumping the gas worked up until recently. Now nothing seems to get it to catch. That's why I initially thought it was a fuel problem.

I used to have an issue with s GMC sonoma truck, near the end, before I traded it in, everytime it rained The Turn signals would not work. It was really weird, but they worked fine in dry weather. Go figure. Maybe it could be something electrical?

Check for spark and check if the injectors are getting command to fire with a noid light while cranking. If both are not present, the crank sensor is likely bad or the terminals to it are bad.

Wet spark plug or engine control electronics. There are sprays to repel water. Or replace 16 year old wiring.

I think it is electrical, spray high tension leads with a thin coating of WD40, not too much or it will have the opposite effect

  • Why did my car start and die when put into gear? Now it won't start at all? It's a cold winter day (below zero) Car started right up! I let it run for about 2 minutes, I put it in gear and it just died. I figured it's cold out, not real surprising, but when I tried to start it again, it won't start! Turns over fine but engie won't start! Any ideas? 2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L
  • 2003 Ford Ranger Won't Start after Fuel Pump install? About 2 weeks ago, I replaced the fuel filter and all 6 spark plugs to do some regular maintenance and upkeep. 3 days ago, hard to start. Had to turn key a couple times to prime- then would fire right up. Replaced fuel pump yesterday, now I have no start at all. It just cranks, and barely starts to turn over, only to bog out. When it starts to bog out, i tap the gas to try and get my RPMS up, but I have no throttle response at all.

  • My Ford focus Zetec Ebony 2003 1.6 16v won't start? The fuel sender is working fine. No signs of a blown head gasket. Had Gunky petrol (Gasoline) go into the engine. The car still turns over but will only start using easy start spray. The car has now been sat in storage for almost a year. What's the verdict?
