Should I sell my car to get a different one?
I own a 1985 Pontiac Fiero SE. (not my daily driver) It has 123, xxx miles and the engine and clutch are going out. The body is in good shape and needs minor work. I have an engine lined up to be put in ( haven't purchased it yet) it is a 3800 S/C from a Pontiac GTP. I bought the car for $400 and the engine, harness, and k-frame for the new engine would be $600. I want to know if I should go ahead and buy the engine and start the swap or buy a different car and work on that instead. The different car would be a 1984 Ford Mustang SVO Turbo. The car has 121, xxx miles. It has been slightly modified and has ~400hp, The car is being sold for $2,500 and is in excellent condition. Both cars are a 5-spd. Is buying the mustang a good choice or should I stick with the mid-engine fiero?
Your current car is very undesirable. Practically no one wants it. Anything would be an improvement.
The FIERO was called automotive junk food by CAR and DRIVE when it came out after testing it and comparing it to a VW GTI! It really is NOT worth very much, and is a rattle trap, BAD with gas, and has a lousy suspension as well! I like the 2.8 liter engine better than the 3.8 but that is just ME! The 2.8 is VERY CAPABLE and shows what Gm can do if it WANTS to by bringing a totally new engine into production, instead of slicing of cylinders off their old beat up BUICK and CHEVY push rod engines! THe FIERO has a dismal interior and NO real ERGONOMICS at all! The MUSTANG is a much better car to play with and more rewarding! Nearly All ford engines have more power capabilities as they are not using the SAME OLD engines over and over again, like the 3.8 engine with it. VERTICAL two valve cylinder head that does NOT breathe all that well. It took gm FOUR TRIES to get the 3.8 to balance right, and the original 3800 engine had ridiculously BAD oil pumps and ignition systems as well. It shows off how GM releases things BEFORE they are ready for public consumption. FORGET the FIERO! Everyone else already has NO PARTS will be available, and the NEW TURBO FORD 2.3 liter engine is AWESOME and will fit, with LOTS of money involved! GM people are So very blind, it seams! The FIERO will not have room for the 3.8 as far as I know, but you could TURBOCHARGE the 2.8 with a bit of success. This car has BAD balance, TORQUE Steer and LOUSY imprecise handling as well! IT. Only saving grace is the plastic body which is ALSO a rattle trap!
I would get the mustang
I ended up buying the mustang, thank you guys for your input. The car has 403.5 rwhp and 385.6 ft/lb

- Why do car companies sell in different countries under different names? Why are companies like Chevrolet selling their cars under names like Holden in Australia? I'm not sure if Chevrolet sells in Australia but I do think they do. If they already sell in Australia, what's the point of selling the same thing under Holden? Another example is some Ford cars are sold under Lincoln, and Chevrolet sells the same thing under GMC. Buick and Opel? What's with this?
- Should i sell my japanese car to feel more American? One day i woke up and i realized i was born in America, so it would make sense to drive an American car. It feels more natural. I own a Honda but i want to buy a Ford. But i don't know if this is a good decision because asian cars are more reliable than american cars. Is this a good decision or do you consider this stupid, just a phase, and unnecessary in your opinion? The whole point of this is just to "feel more american"
- Should I sell my car and get a cheaper one? I currently own a 2014 Ford Mustang valued at roughly $9670 with 47,000 miles on the odometer. I recently accepted a job that will require I commute 2 hours a day or 18,400 miles per year. I'm currently looking to buy a used car for $1500 or less so that I can save up for a better car in a year or two. Should I sell my mustang?
- Should I get a new car or keep paying off my current one? I have a 2013 Ford Fusion with about 58,000 miles on it. I commute to work everyday, and my job requires me to travel, so I've really put the miles on. The original loan amount was $25k, and I have about $14k left on it. I was considering buying a different car and trading in my Fusion. Would that be a stupid idea? Should I just pay the car off?
