Help with alternator replacement 2000 Ford Mustang GT?

Hi, I'm fairly new to this forum. My battery and alternator recently failed on me so I decided to take it upon myself to purchase and install a new set. It was a fairly easy job and I was done in under 20 minutes. Now, when I bought the new alternator it's pulley had a diameter that was about 1/3 of an inch smaller than the previous one in my car. I didn't put too much thought into it due to the fact that the sales guy assured me it was the factory size. I took it out for a spin to make sure everything was good, and right off the bat I noticed the battery gauge drastically dropping. I thought maybe the alternator just needed a second to get going, so I kept driving. That s when my problems started. I could feel the car starting to die before it started shaking and sputtering pretty bad. I was close enough to home that I wanted to try and make it to my driveway. The car completely died a few times while driving, so I engaged the clutch and threw it in 2nd gear and popped the clutch. I had a lot going on while finishing up the alternator job and stupidly forgot to reconnect the two cables to the alternator. It looked as though the belt was what was smoking, although I'm not entirely sure. Can running the alternator with the belt attached, neither of the two cables though, ruin the new alternator? Can anyone explain what happened? Thanks so much in advance!

Oh and my car is a 2000 Mustang GT.

Is a 2005-07 Ford Mustang a good first car for a guy?

I'm 15 and getting my permit soon. I want to have a car for practice so I was thinking of getting a little Pontiac g6 to practice on and when I feel like I've progressed to maybe get a 2005-07 mustang! Good idea or no? Please give your thoughts. You can also tell me other good cars but no camrys or civics (not into them).

Need help finding a specific rear bumper

I know this is a weird thing to ask but I was searching eBay for a new spoiler for my mustang and found this bumper in the thumbnail and fell in love with it.

Problem is I can't find this bumper anywhere. If anyone can help me out with my search or link me to it that would be amazing.

1966 mustang is it worth it?

I'm 18 and want to restore or finish a 1966 ford Mustang with my dad. This 1966 mustang runs good is automatic no rust has a rattle can paint job which I would change and the person only wants $5000 which I want to lower to $4000, it is in good shape on the inside he just put new upper/lower A-arms. New tie rod ends. New brakes & shocks. New gas tank & aluminum radiator. New driveshaft. Zero rust. 200ci/auto. Is it a good deal? I don't want to put like $20000 in to it.

Suggestions for Ford Mustang GT CA smog legal exhaust system?

I just purchased a 2005 Mustang GT, and I'm looking to improve the sound while still being California emissions legal. Don't know much about exhaust tuning… I love how some cars crackle and pop on liftoff. What can I do to get that? Upgrading performance and cost aren't a big deal to me, I just want it to sound better than stock and give it some more noise.
