Knock in my engine? Or pulley noise? Car:2004 Mustang gt miles:115k miles?
My car has had a knock noise from the day i bought it should have been a red flag but i test drove it and it drove fine. Recently did an oil change and my timing chain guide broke and clogged up my oil screen so i had new timing chains guides and chains along with new tensioner and water pump as well as new seals and gaskets replaced at my mechanics shop when i heard it start again the engine bay was a lot quieter than before but the noise has come back my mechanic told me he found no metal shavings in my oil pan and that my cams and valves looked fine, the noise is present at cold start and warm up but can be heard clearer when i have it in drive or reverse.Transmission shifts fine also. Any suggestions on wha it could be? I also changed the spark plugs with ford oem plugs about a month ago i haven't changed the coils though.
Could be pistons or wrist pins.
If there are no misfires why would you even think you needed coils? You may just have piston slap with that many miles. If the oil pump was plugged up with debris from the tensioners breaking you may have some bearing problems but you'd need to take the oil pan off and check the beraring clearance.
Well, it's not the timing chain and guides. Could be piston slap and rebuilding the engine would fix that. Could be a worn out connecting rod bearing. Pull the oil pan and shake the rods to see which one wanders on the crankshaft or has too much side clearance. The bearing will need replacing and the crankshaft will need to be reground.
- If my power steering pump and pulley break, is there any other parts I may have to potentially replace? Last night when I was driving, my power steering pump busted and also broke my power steering pulley. I have a 2002 ford Taurus. In the process of the pulley breaking off, the serpentine belt came off. It is still on the car so I just have to re position it once the new pulley is on. My question is through this incident, could anything else have broken? I just did a bypass pulley for the AC compressor last week. And I also replaced the serpentine belt last week.
- Do i need a pulley puller to remove my water pump pulley? I have a 1996 ford ranger v6 4.0 liter and i was wondering if i need a pulley puller to remove it and/or what other tools will i be needing. It doesn't seem too hard and it's right there so i think i'm capable. I replaced the serpentine belt but now i need to replace both. Also if anyone would be able to give me a link to a video or kind of give me the gist of replacing the pulley.
- 2005 Ford Mustang GT engine/spark knock? It seems to have a engine/spark knock at idle. I can take off and it drives fine. Oil pressure gauge is normal. Car just had a fresh oil change and air filter change. Oil is motorcraft 5W20. Car has 111k miles on it. If I turn the car off, and turn it back on the knock goes away. No check engine light is coming on. Any help will be appreciated
- Looking at trading my 2011 Ford with 80k miles in with an engine knock for a newer jeep Patriot with low miles, Roll 3k negative equity? Ford Fusion has developed and Engine Knock and another mechanical issue. Thinking about getting it repaired or trading it in for a newer Jeep Patriot with low mileage. I would have to roll $3000 of negative equity over to new loan. Any thoughts?
