Car will not start, without starting fluid?

I have a 2001 ford mustang that won't start unless i spray starting fluid into it, it starts up then but after spraying alot and dies out after a minute of it running or when i go to push on the gas pedal. It was flooded a little bit when the street was flooded if that has anything to do with it.

My guess is that the timing is out of alignment. This should be easily fixed at a garage.

More likely a fuel supply problem, as it runs on the starting fluid but that's all. Check the fuel filter, drain any water out, and replace it. Water in the tank or pipes?

Personally I'd disconnect the fuel supply pipe after the filter and carefully let it pump into a jug or something to see that what you're getting is clean fuel in suitable quantities Then when that's achieved try again. No luck? Then start looking at the injectors.

Next time you get it started, drive it straight to a fix-it-garage you trust and tell them the problem. The Mustang is a good car so whatever it takes to fix it is worth it.

Don't use any more starting fluid. It is very very bad on any engine. Especially in gas applications.

Is the fuel filter on tight?

Plugged fuel filter and or low fuel pressure. You can't flood a fuel injected engine.
