Can I get some input about car subs?

I just bought a 2004 Ford Mustang. Everyone tells me I should get subs because it has some pretty rad custom speakers. Plus, I love how the bass sounds. The only probem is, I know pretty much nothing about them. If I could get some input, that would be fantastic! I'm not looking for anything fancy; just something that gets the job done. A friend suggested I get a new deck and a wiring kit so I could just "plug in and play," so if you have any comments about that, I'd be down for suggestions! So if you know anything about brands, sizes, types of subs, what would look/sound good. Etc, please leave feedback! Thanks!

Oh, and a friend of mine had his cars back window blown out and his subs started on fire when he was using them. I definitey DON'T want to deal with that. How can that be avoided?

You can avoid your friends situation by not overpowering your subs. Only give rated rms power or less and make sure your amp is the right size for your subs ie. If you have 2 subs that are 1000w rms then you want an amp that is 2000w rms at most. About the deck and wiring kit, I agree with your friend if you r getting subs. Bass on an aftermarket deck will be louder than if you hook subs up to the stock deck. Mind you you can just stick with the stock stereo but you won't get all you could get out of your subs. I'd go with one or two 10s or 12s for the size of the car. JLs, kicker, eclipse, alpine, and Rockford fosgate are some you can go to an electronics store like best buy and get. Those would work well for what you want. If you want more power and a louder boom go with RE XXX's, audiopipe eyecandies 12s or 15s, or american bass hd series or vfl series. If you go with the later your gonna end up spending $150-$500 each depending on where you get em. Either way make sure you got the right amp size
