I'm looking into getting a diesel truck and i really like the 7.3. I have found this1999 7.3 for $11,000 and its really nice and clean. It has 223k miles on it so i hear thats just breaking the motor in on a 7.3. At the same place their is a 2005 6.0 and it has 187k miles on it. Its really clean too but i hear they arent good. I won't be pulling alot just a daily driver. Which should i get and are those alot of miles?

Not if its been taken care of.

Yep it's trash

That's not bad for a 7.3.

Is it the early 99 7.3? If so, it will be comparably different to the later 99 models. It's best to look into that because some components on the 99.5-2003 7.3 models will not work on the early 99 models. Things like the injetor driver modules, turbochargers (with plumbing) are smaller, and the injectors themselves are a different animal than what's in the later 99 and up models. Plus, on the early 99 models, the automatic transmission models had under-par torque converters that were prone to failure, but getting that upgraded isn't so bad. Other than that, they are incredible engines and are said to last around a million miles without any major repairs needed and with proper TLC. Although at some point, you will have to change the seals in the oil cooler and on the turbo pedestal, but that's not a big deal.
