How to rebuild an engine for better MPG?
I'm gonna rebuild an 83 Lincoln Mark VI, now I know what most people think about Ford but I got it because I had one when I was in high school. People like Cadillac I like Lincoln. It runs good but its been sitting for 2 years in a barn, so before I start buying parts for the engine. Is there a way to rebuild the engine for better MPG?
No matter what you do that thing is going to use a lot of gas. Outside of keeping cars tuned up and the tires properly inflated there's no magic add ons that will increase MPG significantly. What you have is what you are going to get what it comes to millage.
There's probably the TBI 302 in that. You're not going to get particularly good fuel economy out of this car. You're going to looking at around 14-15 MPG city and 19-20 MPG highway, and that's with a freshly rebuilt (to stock specs) engine. You're not going to find much in way of fuel-economy enhancing aftermarket parts, but there are plenty of performance enhancing options. Going to a taller (numerically lower) rear end won't help because this car already has a 3.08 or 2.73 (or there abouts) axle ratio.
If you are concerned about fuel economy, then you should probably be looking at other vehicles.
- How much would it cost to completely rebuild a car? I currently own a 2000 Ford Mustang. It has 180K miles on it, rust, and some cosmetic damage on both bumpers. I'm also not sure where to go for this kind of extensive work. Also wondering if it's possible to go to anywhere like a ford dealership and order the same year and model car and purchase it
- How much would it cost to rebuild a 1982 Ford 200 inline 6? No performance modification. Want it painted as well. Will remove engine myself when I do then take it. Average cost? Los Angeles area.
- Should I rebuild this engine? I drive my dads 2004 Ford f-150. It was bought brand new in in 2004. It has 336,000 miles on it. Only thing that has failed was the alternator, that was at about 246,000 miles. The alternator is the the only thing that has ever been replaced beside the spark plugs, oil and all the filters. I just want to know if we should rebuild it because its not normal for a gasoline engine to get that many miles. I don't want it catastrophically failing on me internally
- How can i get better mpg on my truck? I got a 78 Ford f150 but it only gets about 8-10 mpg. Is there any way I can improve my mpg? If I could get it some how up to 15 mpg I'd be a little happier. But I don't know if thats possible
