How to find out if my 96 Ford Windstar 3.8 has a Coil Pack or a Distributor? - 1

Open the hood and look.

Distributor is circular and will be located right on top of the engine coming out of the valve cover.
Coil pack will be a rectangle location on the side of the engine bay, both will have ignition cable connected at the top

Yogi berra quote.sometimes you can see a lt by looking.
1 open hood
2 or look in shop manual
3 check auto parts.SEE what they sell

Follow the spark plug wires. If they all go into one thing with an extra high tension wire, you have a distributor. If they go to different places or all the same place without a spare wire, and there's no feature for anything to spin in the unit, you have a coil pack. There were a few vehicles with the coil built into the distributor.

Most people would open the hood and just look! If you don't even know what they look like close the hood and find a mechanic. You don't belong under the hood messing with a motor!

If your Windstar has rectangles after following the spark plug cables from the plugs as you have a coil pack for an ignition system as in the 1990 s many automakers started switching over to distributor-less ignition.

Hi it will have a coil pack as most have since 1990.
