How does a trade-in works at a company?

My car is financed and still has 10000 to go. Lets say i wanna trade it in for a brand new car at ford which costs 31,500.
if they value my car for 8000 dollar, how would they calculate it? Will they take off 8000 of the original price and add 2000 dollars or would they just add 2000 dollars to the original price?

Added (1). 10000 *dollars*

Of course, I have no idea & not that anyone actually does the smart thing, but do as I've always done… Pay cash! Save til you can afford to. That's what I have always done. It's obvious people who finance new cars get tired of the car long before they're paid for & from the sounds of your question I'd have to say that first car never actually gets paid for when people simply trade in for more expensive cars therefore payments & on & on. Drive the one you have til it's paid for. Period. You'll live without a new car not to mention the second you drive it off the lot it's not a new car anymore it's a used one. Many advantages to paying cash one being you aren't having to make some stupid payment I can't even imagine every month plus you also do't need full coverage ins so your costs are that much less! If you can't resist then don't go shopping it's very easy really.
Not what you want to hear I know but think about it & maybe later in your life it'll hit you

  • Why does Trump hate American car company Ford so much? Ford can't build 1 Billion dollar plant in Mexico and possibly now European car companies will win bids instead.
  • What does cash/trade mean when buying a vehicle? I'm looking at buying my first vehicle from ford. When I go on the website for Airdrie Ford in albera, I found the truck I like. It gives me how much it will cost a month. Then it says. Cash/trade=$2599. What does this mean, Is that the down payment. I'm not sure of it. And would really appreciate some help
  • Car won't start, power works and makes a single click noise? I have a 93 ford Taurus. When I try to start my car, it was just making a single click noise and then would eventually start after I tried a couple more times. The other day it wouldn't start, still made the single click noise, I tried a couple more times and now it doesn't make the noise at all. The power works, my headlights don't dim or anything like that. I've had my car jumped and that still didn't work so I'm curious as to what it could be?
  • I have a 2000 dodge caravan and the rear heat works great but the front heat blows cold? The blower motors all work fine, has new water pump and brand new coolant. The top vents in the dash blow lukewarm warm but if you switch it to defrost it comes out ice cold but the rear heat still blows super hot air. Coolant level is full. I've read about the blend door could that be the issue? Could a coolant line to the front dash be clogged? I'm a ford mechanic but kinda stumped and have never worked on a dodge.
