Groaning/creaking noise coming from front end of V6 2007 Ford Fusion, but only when hot outside?

I have a 2007 V6 Ford Fusion with automatic transmission. Last summer I noticed that I get a lot of groaning / creaking sounds from my front end when I drive, but only when it is hot out. When it's 75 or less, I hear nothing. When it's above 75ish, I start hearing it and it gets noticeably louder the hotter it gets.

Well, when the weather cooled, the problem went away so I ignored it, But yesterday it got up to 98° and it was very loud indeed. It only happens when the car is in motion. It's definitely coming from the front end.

Any ideas? Any TSBs out for a problem like this?

I'm ignorant about Fusion but is it an all-wheel-drive?
Front wheel drive?
@gabby: he did not say the car gets hot, he said outside temperature gets hot.

I'm guessing the "groaning" noise may have something to do with the drive train going to the front wheels.
I don't know if routine maintenance is required but have you looked under there to see if the "boots" (flexible rubber things covering the u-joints) are intact of torn up, allowing sand and crud to clog things up?
When it is cold the remaining grease holds but when it gets hot outside perhaps all the gunk in there gets fluid and makes noise? I don't know.

Instead of taking it to a shop first, drive one side of the car up on a curb so you can have a look under there and see if there are any obvious things wrong, like maybe torn up boots protecting the drive train in front from gunk or if there are any obvious leakages or seeps of lubricant. That's free.

The obvious problem is that the car gets too hot, I would take it to a repair shop so they find a way to keep it cool

  • What type of differentials does a 2007 Ford Fusion AWD have? (front & back)? My Grandmother has a 2007 AWD Fusion and it is simply excellent in snowy conditions - we live in a very hilly part of PA. I just spent an hour on the internet and couldn t find an answer… From what I can gather, her car has an "on demand" AWD system meaning it has a differential between the front and back axles… MY question is what type of diffs does it have in the axles themselves (front & back)? Open or limited slip?
  • I called my mechanic he said it takes three hours to change front end o2oxyen sensor.i have 2007 Ford Fusion I called my mechanic he said it takes three hours to change front end o2oxyen sensor. I have 2007 Ford Fusion
  • Car is making creaking noise? I have a 2011 Ford Fusion SE and it's been making a creaking noise when turning or hitting bumps/driving rougher roads. It's been to the mechanic a few times for the power steering recall and a damaged hub bearing and wheel due to hitting a pot hole. I was told by one mechanic that it needs new ball joints and lower control arms. Should I get a second opinion or is that the main cause of this noise? I recorded it and can send upon request. May post on YouTube too.
  • Noise works, but when I push it, it also makes a clicking/rattling noise? I have a 2012 Ford Focus, and while the horn works, and sounds (as it normally does), when I press it, it also makes a weird clicking/rattling noise (also kinda like a jingle sound - hard to describe). It sounds as if it's coming from behind the center console/under the center console, but it's hard to tell. Any ideas what it could be? With any answers - any advice on how to fix it? Question should say HORN Works
