Is a drain and refill safer to perform than a transmission flush on a ford focus 2000 lx with 150000?

Another top contributor described it very well - if a transmission needs a flush it needs an overhaul. Drain and fill is *always* safer than a flush.
If your tranny is noisy at highway speed then new fluid won't help, though the drain is definitely the better option. Mine was noisy for about a year and finally let go at 110,000. Also it doesn't have a tranny cooler so you don't need to worry about that. I always fill the tranny until fluid comes out if the fill hole. That was about what the oil capacity is. This is all if it is a munaul, which I think it should be. I don't think the LX ever came with a automatic, you had to splurge on the SE for that.
I think if the transmission is working OK and there are not shavings in the fluid, then probably does not matter. Some transmissions have a filter in the pan, so the pan has to be removed to change the filter. Check on how the filter works for that car. Also do you think it might have off spec fluid. If so you need a flush as best not to mix fluids.
I have an 02 neon, I just drain out the 4 quarts every 12-18 months and top it off.
Make sure you don't overfill it. Read the manual, usually you need to check level when car is running and warm. And sitting on level ground.
Usually you need to press the brake and put the car in each gear for 30 seconds, then check the level. Then add an 1/8 quart and check again.
- Wouldn't women like Dr. Ford feel safer when they were drunk if OSHA stopped violent men like those in the NFL from hitting each other? And calling it play. Shouldn't women have that right to feel safe? You can call this "highlight films" but they are just rich men being violent which a civilized government would stop
- Transmission fluid change or flush or both (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? I just got a 1997 Ford Taurus GL with over 133000 miles. The car is in pretty good shape but when I shift gears it shifts kind of hard. I have no idea if the trans has ever been serviced but my guess is that it need to be. Would you recommend just draining the pan, changing the filter and gasket and replenishing the fluid or should I do a flush? Not a power flush. Just using an extension hose to drain the old fluid and add new fluid. Or do you recommend both? If so, in what order?
- Where is the plug to drain coolant on my 2006 Ford Focus? I'm quite sure k-seal has caused a blockage in my cooling system somewhere, as since using it the coolant level has been erratic, bottle empty one day, then higher the next e.t.c. I want to flush old water out ( only use water) but where will I find the drain plug? During flushing coolant, is it just the plug I remove or do I also have to disconnect radiator hoses too?
- 2012 Ford Focus Engine Coolant Flush? I had topped off my Focus's engine coolant because it was below the min line, and after a little reading, I found that mixing universal with my dexcool wasn't a good idea. One mechanic said it'll be okay, but I decided to get it flushed. After a rather quick service it was done but I believe he just drained the radiator, and refilled it with dexcool. My question is, was that all I needed or did it need to be more extensive to get rid of the risk of my engine seizing up?
