Is a 2016 Dodge Charger SXT for $15,899 good deal? (Brand Title)?

As the title says, my local Auto Sources has this car on their lot for that amount, but I'm not sure if a salvage title is worth it.

My experience with a salvage title: My mom had a 2009 Ford Focus which was a salvage title. She paid 3k for it. It's last 3 years until recently. My little sister got into accident and wreck the whole front frame, so we sold it for about $400. So positive experience I would say.

But this one is different because its not 15k we're talking about not 3k. And if I but the car, I would expect it to last at least 5-8 years.

What do you guys think? Some advice. Thanks in advance. BTW, you wouldn t know the car has been in an accident by looking at it.

Seems ok. But you still need to fix it. Then all the repairs after you fix it.

What was damaged. I'm guessing it's more than a fender bender. If the engine or other vital components are damaged, it's not worth it.

I personally wouldn't buy a salvage title car because there's too much damage. It's going to be near impossible to trade it in and even if you could, you'll get almost nothing for it. If you get into an accident the insurance company isn't going to give you that much for repairs.

Not considering that a dealer less than 15 miles from me has a rear wheel drive one with 43,000 miles and no damage history for $16,500 and there's one not much farther away with 38k on the clock a dealer is asking $15,995 for. The mnute you drive that salvage title car off the lot it won't be worth a penny more than $13000, if even that.

A lot of the answer depends on what is (was?) wrong. I know of a case where someone stole the leather seats out of a BMW and the insurance company wrote it off rather than replace them. The rest of the car was perfect.

There are also a lot of cars that have survived floods. Some have barely gotten the floors wet, others have been completely submerged. The bad part about flood damage is that the water could have been fresh or salt water. And the electrical problems may not show up for some time. I had one that over time had to have all the wiring replaced. One wire at a time.

$15899 is low, but does not sound like a give away. If it has been well repaired and seems good, it might be worth a serious look and a low-ball offer. Take your mother with you. She might or might not know cars, but I will bet she knows money

A rebuilt wreck with a prior salvage reduces a cars value by 30-40%.

Does an identical Charger that has never been wrecked go for $23.5-25.5k?

Now, on a $3000-4000 car the deduction might only be 20-25%.

Insurance is more expensive and they would fight to pay only 50% if it was totaled. Ditto when you go to trade it in.

For a dozen years I was a low end car dealer. I had a handful of prior salvage. One rare one was never wrecked or painted. It was a theft recovery. I only got about a 15% deduction on it.

I would never buy a late model rebuilt wreck unless I was good friends with the re-builder and was confident in the quality of the work.

Caveat Emptor

It is only three years old, go for it!

  • Is a 2016 Ford Mustang Premium Convertible for $16,999 a good deal? The one concern I have is the mileage. It's at 73,564. Is that too high for a sports/ muscle car? It has been with two owners. Advice please?
  • Dodge Charger vs Ford Mustang For first car? I'm having a hard time choosing between a Dodge Charger or a Ford Mustang as my first car can someone tell me which one is better and list pros and cons. Best answer gets 10pts.
  • My Ford Fusion beat a Dodge Charger in a race? I'm shocked by how this is possible. I didn't expect to win, but we raced three times, everything was fair and square, and I won. We both have stock cars, nothing added, so how did I win… He had a 2012 Dodge Charger SXT with 300hp and I have a 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium with 231hp and ecoboost
  • Dodge charger or Ford Fusion? 2013 models I'm going to be using it for college and doing a lot of highway driving and just want peoples opinions. And off the back would you think that someone driving a charger is a douche?
