Break line repair cost for a 2001 Ford Focus
The break light on my Focus lit on and the peddle has like no pressure. I'll go to 5 mph, hit the breaks and it'll be a full second between me pressing all the way down and the car actually stopping. Similar situation with my mom's 03 Sonata some years back.
I'm pretty sure it's both break lines that need to be repaired and I know I can't do it myself. How much would a mechanic charge for this? I know parts can be inexpensive, but labor can be pricey.
Normally I'd call one, but I work all night and it'll be several hours before I can call for an estimate, let alone a tow.
There's NO way that we can diagnose a problem like this over the internet. Could be $100, could be $1,000 depending on what's actually wrong.
Guess what? It's BRAKE light and BRAKE line and BRAKES. It's PEDAL, not peddle, which means to sell or distribute. The PEDAL doesn't have "like no pressure", it either has no pressure or it has very little pressure. The word "like" does not belong there. Bad usage and bad habit.
So, explain why you're sure that it's the BRAKE lines? Do you see any BRAKE fluid leaking down the inside of a tire or onto the ground where the rubber flex lines are located? Have you even bothered to look at the fluid level in the BRAKE fluid reservoir? Besides the flexible BRAKE lines that might be damaged and leaking, it could be a failed wheel cylinder or it could be the BRAKE master cylinder that has gone out. Any of these can cause a soft or spongy PEDAL or no resistance in the BRAKE PEDAL at all.
Without knowing which one of these items it is, no one can give you an estimate of cost that isn't a wild guess. So, whether you LIKE it or not (correct usage of like) you'll either have to inspect your car more thoroughly and give us more information or you will need to have it towed to a shop for inspection by someone who is knowledgeable.
Here is something you could do that is easy if you have a minute to go pop the hood and pull the cover off the BRAKE fluid reservoir. If it is low or empty you could add some BRAKE fluid then slowly pump and hold the PEDAL several times to see if there's an increase in pressure. If so it might allow you to slowly and carefully drive it to a shop that is close by. If not, then get a tow truck. Be sure to buy some BRAKE fluid that is correct for your vehicle if you want to try adding it yourself.
Good luck with your vehicle and your spelling and grammar.
No way to begin to even start with an accurate estimate. Stuff can get pretty rusted up under there & might not come apart real easy. It could take a couple of hours to get the old line off & get a new line bent just right. & then the master cylinder will have to be refilled & the brakes bled. Count on a few hours of labor. I've changed my own before. It's not that bad a job, but you will need a tubing bender. They don't cost that much. Also, they usually have a different fitting from the master cylinder than they have where they go into the brakes, meaning you will need two different lines & a union to join them together. You'll see what I mean when you get it apart.
First, learn how to spell brakes. And, no car stops in one second when you hit the brakes. You're not making any sense. It has nothing to do with the lines. Stop pretending to be a mechanic.
You have a leak or no fluid. Could be a brake line or a master or slave cylinder and no reason from your description to expect it to be either of those in particular.
Just because a particular fix sorted another car with the same problem it does not mean that your car has that same problem in this instance.
You mention "BOTH BRAKE LINES" but in fact there are loads more than 2 separate brake lines in the car.
The problem you have is at this time unknown. Unless you can definitely determine the problem then you can't call for an estimate.
Front metal brake line labor $80. Rear metal brake line replacement $150. If one of the rubber hoses to a front caliper burst you're still looking at around $120 for parts and labor. A bad master cylinder can also cause a bad pedal.
Hi so why should you car last longer than any one elses. After now some 16 years of use this car is now in need of serious overhaul of it's systems brakes being just one of them a new engine and gearbox as well.
It may not be the lines, it could be the seals in the master cylinders or slave cylinders
There a leak some where
