2007 ford focus. Occasionally the battery signal on dash lights up, then goes away after a min. Does that mean the alternator is failing?

It only happens intermittently, has been for about 4 weeks.

It could mean that. However, I had a similar problem, it would flicker for about ten minutes, then stop. I even bought a used alternator, but this was all back in February. I didn't do anything, and the problem went away by itself. It could be because it gets darker later now, so I didn't need to use my headlights as much, but who knows. My advice would be to just keep an eye on it. If it gets worse, or if you have the money to spare, or you just don't want to worry about it, get it replaced. Also take it to any auto parts store first, they can test it for you.

It is more likely that there's a loose or corroded connection to your battery. Clean and tighten your battery cables and see if that solves the problem

Either a loose or dirty battery terminal connection or slipping serpentine belt.

Have the alternator and battery checked. I suspect the battery more than the alternator.

Hi No it does not just to let you know the self diagnostics is working. Only if they stay on is it something to get something done about it.
