Where can I rent a Ford flex?
I'm interested in trying it out to test it to see if it's better or more practical than a minivan. Do rental companies do hourly or half day rentals? A test drive at a dealership won't be enough to test it out.
A Flex isn't something found in any rental fleets that I'm aware of.

Call or go online to the major car rental places, see if any of them rent one. Call your local ford dealer, some of them offer rentals.
You may be able to rent one from a Ford dealer.
Enterprise rent a car offers the Flex but you will need to rent it for at least one day.
