Why are some new cars still built with manual windows?

Manual windows seem outdated these days. Yet there are still manufactures that built cars without power windows.

some of these car include chevy sonic ls, ford fiesta s, nissan versa s, and a couple more that i saw.

Expense!

Cheaper to manufacture. Also, they last longer. Have you ever known a mechanical window to fail? Bet you've had some electrics go huh?

Because it is cheap. For a car that's old or known to have electrical issues, I'd much rather have manual windows.

I haven't actually seen a car with manual windows in ages. The cars you list are all subcompacts, competing for the low end of the new car market, and having the lowest base MSRP to print on a flier can lure broke shoppers into the showroom. In reality, very few cars will be built in base trim, because even in subcompact trim, people want power windows. Go to your local Chevy dealer, and see how many Sonics they have with zero options selling he lowest MSRP. My guess is zero. If you absolutely have to have the cheapest car, you could order one, but don't expect Chevy to have it on the lot.

Also, cars really don't sell at MSRP. I went looking for a compact Mazda 3 last summer, wanting no options other than an automatic transmission. I drove out of the dealer with a car equipped with enough options to push the MSRP up to $23,000, but I still paid $18,000 for the car. That was for a brand new 2015 with 12 miles on the odometer.

Cost.

When you are trying to match the low end of the market, saving $100 on window winders, drum brakes on the rear, cheap stereo etc all count.

Sure they could add all those fancy things, then the car costs $2,000 more, and people on a tight budget go and buy the cheaper car from the competition.

I love manual windows, cheaper, very little to go wrong and rarely do I need to roll down a window other than the one I'm sitting by - so why the f does any one NEED power windows is beyond me. Power mirrors - now that is a different conversation and I'm all for having power mirrors.

Because some of us prefer it.

Same with manual locks, manual seats, manual transmissions, etc.

Plus, with automatic windows, I need to keep them open while driving on frozen lakes, where with manual ones, I can roll them down if for some reason, my vehicle goes under.

Some people want basic transportation for as cheap as possible.

Not everyone wants junk built to fail.
I don't want something that takes 5 tries to get stopped where I want it.

Stripped cars are built for Commercial and Rental use to keep the costs down when buying fleets of them. If you notice you'll typically never actually see one at a dealership. They usually have to be ordered that way.

No one makes power windows that are reliable. They All break down. They are all JUNK.

I HATE power windows. I'm stuck with them and I just had to repair mine… Stuck with the flu, 28 degrees out and my window breaks… Now, I'm even sicker because I was outside for an hour replacing the junk parts with new junk parts.

When I trade this vehicle, I won't give in next time and get stuck with junk power windows.

  • Why would people buy older foreign cars instead of brand new American cars? I see it all the time, people driving 7-8 year old Mercedes or BMWs that they paid probably paid around $20,000. They could of easily gone out and bought a brand new Ford or Dodge, but they didn't. They bought a Mercedes with over 100k miles. All worn and torn on the inside. But aslong as they're shining on the outside I guess.
  • Why do some cars lose acceleration when the A.C is on? Like in my 2007 Versa Sedan SL, I have to turn the AC off when merging on the highway otherwise it feels like driving a Ford Model T. But my 2010 Odyssey, and 2017 Rogue can drive perfectly with the AC on. Heck on the Rogue I can drive on ECO and still merge fine on the highway.
  • Why are some Ford cars (like the Taurus and Focus) such unreliable cars? I'm looking at cars in the $3000 - $4500 range and I'm noticing a decent amount of Ford Taurus's and Focus's and out of all the cars that I see, these are two cars that just seem so unreliable. I test drove a Focus last year and it sounded like something was wrong with the engine.
  • What are some good things to do to my 2007 Ford V6 Mustang to get some more power and performance? I want to get more power and better performance out of my V6 and no I don't want to trade up for a V8. I inherited this car and its paid off and only has 11,000 miles on it. Not to mention sentimental value so please leave your hate for V6s for someone else. I just want to know some cost effective ways to get more out of my stang. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
